Penn State May Have Found A Receiver Who Changes Its Ceiling

From a slow start to a stunning rise, Brett Eskildsen's pivotal moments in 2024 set the stage for a standout college football career.

Brett Eskildsen’s rise at Penn State starts with a pair of catches that barely filled a stat line - but changed everything for him.

Now a junior and one of the players expected to help lead the Lions’ wide receiver group this fall alongside fellow Iowa State transfer Chase Sowell, Eskildsen has already shown he can stretch a defense. He broke out for Iowa State in 2025, leading the Cyclones with 526 receiving yards while averaging 17.5 yards per catch. His season included a 75-yard touchdown against BYU, a two-touchdown performance against Kansas and an eight-catch, 105-yard, one-score day against Cincinnati.

Still, the moment Penn State head coach Matt Campbell keeps coming back to came the year before, when Eskildsen was a true freshman and had just two receptions all season - both against Cincinnati.

“That did everything for my confidence,” Eskildsen said of receptions vs. the Bearcats in 2024.

Those catches came in Iowa State’s 11-win season, and they mattered in the middle of a second-half push. Eskildsen converted third downs into first downs as the Cyclones outscored Cincinnati 24-7 after halftime and rolled to a 34-17 win in Ames, a victory that clinched Iowa State’s eighth win of the year.

“I started the (2024) year playing special teams and really, I just had the mentality of, I will do whatever this team needs to win,” Eskildsen said.

“Just knowing that all the work I had put in, it kind of paid off right there. I was able to help the team win.”

Campbell, who left Iowa State for the Lions’ job after the 2025 season, said that game was the one that showed Eskildsen what he could be.

“Man, (Eskildsen) wins us the Cincinnati game with huge catches, while Higgins and Noel are getting double-teamed the entire game,” Campbell recalled earlier this month.

“He broke onto the scene. Last year, you kind of saw (Eskildsen) take the next step. Made some huge plays down the field.”

Campbell also pointed to Eskildsen’s speed, noting that he and Penn State corner Audavion Collins are arguably the two fastest players on the team. Eskildsen said he has not run the 40 but believes he can run 4.3. At Centennial High School in Frisco, Texas, he ran a 10.5 in the 100 meters.

“He has strong hands, has the ability to accelerate down the field vertically,” Campbell said of Eskildsen.

“He can do a lot of different things and can be a great special teams player, as well.”

Penn State Fans Are Split Over Beaver Stadiums New Price Tag

Penn State athletics unveiled the seating chart and updated ticket prices for the 2027 football season at a renovated Beaver Stadium, giving fans their first real look at what a trip to the new building will cost. The release quickly stirred debate on social media, where some supporters focused on affordability and the sticker shock of higher prices, while others pointed to the financial pressures that come with maintaining a top-end college football program.

The new pricing is tied directly to the universitys effort to help fund the stadium renovation and support athletic department finances, which makes the reaction more than just a complaint about football tickets. For a fan base that treats Beaver Stadium as a point of pride as much as a game-day venue, the numbers have become part of a larger conversation about what it will take to keep Penn State competitive while modernizing one of the sports biggest stages. Penn State Fraternity Drug Case Took An Even Wilder Turn During Arrest

The fallout from the Penn State fraternity drug case keeps widening, and Thomas Robinson remains at the center of it. The 23-year-old student was arrested in December 2024 in connection with a cocaine trafficking operation tied to two fraternities, part of a case that has already led to felony charges for 14 people and brought serious scrutiny to campus Greek life. Searches connected to the investigation turned up drugs and a firearm, and both Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi have since faced suspensions and sanctions.

Robinsons role, according to authorities, made him a key figure in the alleged network rather than just another name in the lineup of arrests. He faces multiple felony charges as the case works through the courts, leaving Penn State to deal with the broader damage while the details of how the operation functioned continue to emerge. Penn State Fans Are Already Debating The Cost Of Beaver Stadiums Upgrade

Penn State has put 2027 football season-ticket prices in front of fans, and the numbers are already sparking plenty of debate as Beaver Stadiums renovation moves from concept to reality. The university says the changes come with a reshaped seating map and new premium offerings, while also giving season-ticket holders plenty of advance notice and detailed pricing information before the upgrades take hold.

The biggest reactions are tied to how uneven the changes look across the stadium, with some sections set to climb sharply and others actually coming down. Much of the attention has centered on the new premium club seating tied to the renovation, a clear sign that the cost of staying close to the action is going to feel very different depending on where fans sit.
