Penn State Football Welcomes Special Guests to Lasch Building Event

Penn State football, under new head coach Matt Campbell, embraces tradition and community by hosting THON families for a memorable event at the Lasch Building and Holuba Hall.

Penn State's head coach, Matt Campbell, along with his staff and players, recently hosted the THON Explorers event, continuing a cherished tradition. The Nittany Lions opened the doors of their Lasch Building and Holuba Hall to pediatric cancer patients, survivors, and their families, creating an unforgettable day filled with fun and camaraderie.

This year's event saw a vibrant mix of new faces, from recent NCAA Transfer Portal additions to mid-year freshman enrollees, all joining in to make the day special. The players and coaches engaged in a variety of activities, showcasing the strong bond between the team and the community.

In a heartwarming moment, a THON kid threw a pass to tight end Andrew Rappleyea, illustrating the joyful interactions that defined the day. Quarterback Peyton Falzone and wide receiver Peter Gonzalez were among the many players who connected with the kids, offering advice and sharing laughs.

The event wasn't just about football. Players like Cooper Cousins gave tips on passing, while others, like linebacker Cael Brezina, engaged in quick workouts with the kids. The day was a mix of sports and creativity, with some players picking out crayons for coloring sheets or showing off face paint designs.

Games of ping pong and pool were in full swing, with kicker Ryan Barker facing off against the THON kids in friendly matches. Defensive end Yvan Kemajou joined in on video games, further highlighting the diverse activities available.

The day wasn't complete without some classic sports moments. A THON kid sliding into home plate during a Wiffle ball game brought cheers, while players like Matthew Parker tried their hand at pitching. The camaraderie extended to gatorade bottle flipping and other playful challenges.

Throughout the event, the spirit of unity and support was palpable. Players and staff, including associate head coach Terry Smith and assistant athletic director Amber Giese, coordinated group photos and activities, ensuring everyone felt included.

The THON Explorers event is a testament to the Penn State football program's commitment to community and compassion, creating lasting memories for both the team and the families involved.
