Aidan O'Neil, a standout edge rusher from the Class of 2027, is turning heads. Ranked 127th overall, 15th among edge rushers, and third in New Jersey, O'Neil is a hot commodity. Recently, he narrowed his choices down to seven schools, with Penn State emerging as a frontrunner.
Joining Penn State on O'Neil's shortlist are Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Texas A&M, and Notre Dame. The Nittany Lions hold a strong lead, with a 31.5% chance of securing his commitment, according to Rivals. Kentucky and Notre Dame are also in the mix but trail behind.
It's no surprise Penn State is leading the charge. O'Neil mentioned that the Nittany Lions are pursuing him with the most vigor, a testament to their commitment to bolstering their defensive ranks.
Defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn has a promising group of defensive ends, including returning players like Mason Robinson, Bobby Mears, and Jordan Mayer. O'Neil would be a valuable addition to this young and talented roster, joining the likes of Max Granville and Yvan Kemajou.
During his junior year, O'Neil showcased his skills with 54 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a safety. His potential to be a cornerstone for Campbell's team is clear, and he could be pivotal in shaping the Class of 2027.
O'Neil is set to visit Happy Valley over the weekend of June 12, and Penn State fans will be eagerly watching to see if he becomes the latest Nittany Lion.
