Matt Campbell Reveals Encouraging Update On Rocco Becht Recovery

Matt Campbell announces encouraging progress in Rocco Becht's recovery, hinting at an accelerated return for the quarterback.

Penn State football is buzzing with the start of its spring season, and head coach Matt Campbell is already setting the tone. He recently addressed the media, shedding light on the team's goals, his coaching staff, and the injury updates that fans have been eagerly awaiting.

A key focus is quarterback Rocco Becht, who’s been on the mend following shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum in his non-throwing arm. He also faced an AC joint sprain in his throwing arm, adding to the challenge. However, the outlook on Becht’s recovery has been optimistic, with expectations that he would start throwing mid-spring, remaining no-contact throughout the season.

Campbell provided an encouraging update, noting that Becht is ahead of schedule. "Rocco is a little bit ahead of schedule physically," Campbell mentioned. Becht has already started some drill work, which is a promising sign for the senior quarterback.

The plan is for Becht to engage in drills like 7-on-7 and 3-over-2, or routes on air, as the spring progresses. This on-field activity is crucial, not just for Becht’s recovery but for his role as a team leader.

"He's been throwing for a little over three weeks now, which is fantastic," Campbell shared. The focus is on taking a measured approach to his recovery.

"It's huge to have him out there in individual drills and even in group settings. His leadership on the field is invaluable for us."

Becht, eager to connect with his new teammates, emphasized the importance of being present. "Getting back as soon as I could to play with my new teammates was super valuable," he expressed.

As Penn State gears up for the season, Becht’s progress and leadership will be pivotal. His return not only boosts the team’s morale but also sets a strong example for the younger players watching him lead by example.
