Kaytron Allen's journey from Norfolk, Virginia, to the brink of the NFL Draft is a testament to determination and talent. Growing up in a challenging environment, Allen has always carried a chip on his shoulder, using it as fuel to excel beyond his hometown.
His path took him to Florida's IMG Academy, where he honed his skills before becoming a standout running back at Penn State. Now, Allen is looking to take the next step by entering the NFL Draft this April.
“Penn State was just one step,” Allen remarked. “Now, I have to reach another level to be better than I was the last four years.”
Allen, alongside his backfield partner Nick Singleton, is a top prospect on draft boards. Although he was invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, he chose to participate only in on-field drills, focusing on catching passes from Drew Allar during Penn State’s pro day, following his agent’s advice.
Training in Miami over the past few months, Allen has worked on enhancing his speed and hands. While at Penn State, he showcased flashes of his receiving skills, but his reputation was built on being a gritty, powerful runner. Allen’s ability to burst through the line and gain significant yards made him Penn State’s all-time leading rusher with 4,180 yards.
“It meant a lot because I put it down on my record board,” Allen said, reflecting on his achievement. “I told my aunties I wanted to do it. They passed, but I wanted to make it happen for them.”
Despite his success, Allen feels his contributions might not be fully appreciated. “I don't think people really respect what I've done here,” he noted.
Beyond the rushing record, Allen was recognized as an AFCA All-American second team in 2025 and made the Associated Press’ third team. He also ranks third in program history with 39 career rushing touchdowns.
The lack of widespread recognition doesn’t faze Allen. His focus has always been on leaving a lasting impact at Penn State, and he’s confident in his abilities.
“I’m different,” Allen stated. “I feel like I can do everything.”
As Allen prepares to embark on his professional journey, he hopes fans remember his dedication and love for the game. This sentiment extends to his supporters back in Norfolk.
Uncertain about when he’ll be drafted, Allen’s stock varies between Day 2 and 3 according to experts. He’s had discussions with numerous teams, including the Houston Texans.
Regardless of which team calls his name, Allen is ready to seize his opportunity and make an impact, a dream he’s held close for years. “I’ve been dreaming about it so long, and it’s within arm’s reach,” Allen said. “All I need is an opportunity.”
