Penn State men’s basketball is gearing up for a change on the sidelines. Assistant coach Joe Crispin is set to take the reins as head coach at Air Force, according to multiple sources. This move was initially reported by CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.
Crispin, who joined Penn State's coaching staff under head coach Mike Rhoades in 2023, previously led Rowan, a Division III program. His transition to Air Force marks a significant step in his coaching career.
A standout player in his own right, Crispin is a legend in Penn State basketball history. He played a crucial role in leading the team to the Sweet Sixteen back in 2001 and left the program as its second all-time leading scorer. Over the years, he has been surpassed by Lamar Stevens and current Penn State assistant coach Talor Battle, who joined the staff last season.
With Crispin's departure, Penn State will have its first open assistant coaching position since Battle came on board. This change presents an opportunity for the program to bring in fresh talent and continue building on its storied legacy.
