Georgia just landed a major building block for its 2027 recruiting class-and it’s a big one. Kemon Spell, the No. 7 overall prospect and the top-ranked running back in the nation according to 247Sports, announced his commitment to the Bulldogs on Monday. It’s an early but significant win for Kirby Smart and his staff as they start stacking blue-chip talent for the next wave of Georgia football.
Spell, out of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, had originally committed to Penn State. But when the Nittany Lions made a major shake-up midway through the 2025 season by firing head coach James Franklin, Spell reopened his recruitment.
That decision instantly made him one of the most coveted uncommitted players in the country. Georgia, Notre Dame, and Miami jumped into the mix, while programs like Nebraska, Oregon, and Ole Miss also threw their hats into the ring with new offers.
Ultimately, Georgia won out-and it wasn’t just about facilities or tradition. It was about connection.
“It’s just the love and relationship between all the coaches,” Spell said of his bond with the Bulldogs. “I got down there the first time and got to meet Kirby Smart.
It was nothing but great. It’s been great every other day since then, and we’ve talked every other day, for real.”
That kind of consistent contact and genuine relationship-building clearly left a mark. Spell described the visit to Athens as having a “home feel,” and that sense of belonging helped seal the deal.
And let’s be clear-this isn’t just a feel-good commitment. Spell is a game-changer on the field.
Despite missing three games early in his junior season due to an ankle injury, he still racked up 1,755 rushing yards and found the end zone 32 times. He’s not just a bruiser between the tackles either-he’s dangerous as a receiver and electric in the return game.
His versatility makes him a nightmare for defenses and a dream for offensive coordinators.
Spell’s rise in the rankings has been steady and well-earned. He debuted at No. 59 overall but has climbed into the top 10 as evaluators got more tape and more context on what he brings to the table. He’s now one of just nine five-star prospects in the early 2027 cycle, and the headliner of a Georgia class that’s already making noise.
With Spell on board, Georgia now sits at No. 6 in the 2027 team rankings-a strong position this early in the game. He joins a group that already features two other top-60 players: cornerback Donte Wright (No. 34) and offensive tackle Kelsey Adams (No.
54). That trio gives the Bulldogs a balanced foundation across all three phases, and it’s only February of 2026.
Meanwhile, Kirby Smart is wrapping up his 2026 class this week, which currently ranks No. 6 nationally. That’s par for the course under Smart, who hasn’t finished outside the top 10 in any recruiting cycle since taking over in Athens. He’s also got three No. 1 classes under his belt over the last decade, and with the way 2027 is starting, a fourth might not be out of the question.
Kemon Spell’s commitment sends a clear message: Georgia isn’t just reloading-they’re building something scary for the future. And if the early returns are any indication, the Bulldogs will once again be right in the thick of the national title conversation for years to come.
