Ex-Pitt Commit Makes Powerful Penn State Admission

Penn State wrestling secures a top-tier recruit as Elijah Brown joins their ranks, promising to elevate the teams competitive edge further.

Penn State wrestling continues to dominate the national scene, and with the addition of Elijah Brown, their future looks even brighter. Brown, a standout recruit from the Class of 2026, is set to join the Nittany Lions for the 2026-27 season after an impressive high school career. Originally committed to Pittsburgh, Brown made headlines by switching allegiances to Penn State, a move that has fans buzzing.

Brown capped off his high school journey in style, clinching his second consecutive PIAA Class 3A title in the 215-pound weight class. His high school record speaks volumes: a staggering 173-20 overall, with a near-perfect 94-2 over the past two seasons. This track record of success sets the stage for what could be a remarkable collegiate career.

Reflecting on his high school achievements and his decision to join Penn State, Brown expressed his excitement: “This was a great way to end the season and my high school career. I’m just so excited for Penn State and everything that comes with that.”

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Brown had his sights set high, seeking a program that matched his ambitions. After de-committing from Pitt in October, it was a swift decision to align with head coach Cael Sanderson's esteemed program.

“I started to have higher aspirations and higher goals,” Brown explained. “If I want to be the best, I have to go where the best wrestlers are.

So that automatically put Penn State at the top of my list. I love the staff and everything about it.”

While the Nittany Lions aren't losing many wrestlers after the 2025-26 season, Brown's addition is pivotal. He brings depth to either the 197-pound or heavyweight classes, promising to bolster the team's competitive edge.

The 197-pound class is currently anchored by sophomore Josh Barr, who is expected to remain a key player throughout his college career. However, if Brown makes the jump to the 285-pound class, he’ll face off against Cole Mirasola.

Mirasola, ranked No. 9 in the NCAA Tournament for Penn State, has shown flashes of brilliance with significant victories, including an upset over Ohio State's Nick Feldman. Yet, consistency has been elusive, and Brown’s presence could provide the spark Mirasola needs to elevate his game.

If not, Sanderson will have no qualms about giving Brown his shot on the mat.

With Brown joining the ranks, Penn State's wrestling program is poised to continue its legacy of excellence, keeping fans eagerly anticipating what's next.
