The Ottawa Senators are set to welcome Brady Tkachuk back to Canadian Tire Centre on Oct. 21, and the team plans to mark the occasion with a video tribute, team president Cyril Leeder said Thursday, according to Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch.
It will be a familiar building for Tkachuk, even if the uniform is different now. The former Ottawa captain was moved to the Florida Panthers this offseason after requesting a trade to the Atlantic Division rival so he could play alongside his brother, Matthew. He still has two seasons remaining on his contract.
The move came after months of speculation about whether Tkachuk would eventually push his way to Florida. That chatter had been hanging over Ottawa for a while, and it clearly wore on him after the Senators were swept by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the 2026 playoffs.
“I feel like I've answered this hundreds of times,” Tkachuk said in April when asked about his future in Ottawa. “None of those things ever came out of my mouth.
Quite honestly, it's just getting frustrating. It's becoming a distraction.
I have been fully committed to this team, to this city, and it's just become a distraction and frustrating to deal with.”
According to the report, Tkachuk requested a trade after Ottawa’s playoff exit and was dealt to Florida less than two months later.
Tkachuk spent the first eight seasons of his career in Ottawa after the Senators took him fourth overall in 2018. He wore the captain’s “C” for the past five years.
His place in franchise history is already well established: 572 games, which ranks 10th in team history, and 463 points, good for fifth. In the playoffs, he totaled seven points in 10 games for the Senators.
