Ridly Greig Stuns With Sisterly Connection Fueling Senators' Success

Sibling support takes center stage as the Greig and Batherson families make impactful strides in both the NHL and PWHL, showcasing the bonds that drive success on and off the ice.

In the world of professional hockey, sibling support can be a game-changer. Dara Greig and her younger brother, Ridly Greig, are living proof of this dynamic.

Ridly, currently on track for career highs with the Senators, has been offering his big sister, a winger for the PWHL’s Montreal Victoire, some reassuring advice. As Dara navigates the second half of her sophomore season, Ridly’s message is simple: patience is key, and success will come.

Reflecting on their conversations, Ridly shared, “We’ve talked about it before, and even discussed it with our dad. Numbers fluctuate, and in women’s hockey, scoring can be lower.

She’s tough on herself, but I believe good things are on the horizon for her. It’s easy to get frustrated, but sticking with it is important.”

Drake Batherson shares a similar bond with his sister, Mae Batherson, who’s making waves in her second season with the Minnesota Frost. Mae ranks second in league scoring among defenders, boasting two goals and eight assists in just 15 games. Drake, also eyeing career highs with the Sens, praises Mae’s progress, especially after her rookie season and the opportunities that arose following the expansion draft.

Mae’s journey included a memorable moment last year when she dropped the puck at the Senators’ Women in Sport night, a tradition continuing this Thursday as the Red Wings visit. Drake fondly recalls that night, “It was incredible, playing against Detroit with so much family present. Mae dropping the puck at an NHL game was unforgettable.”

Just months before that, Mae and Dara faced off in Denver, setting a new attendance record for a professional women’s hockey game on U.S. soil. Dara notched her first career point with an assist in that game, highlighting the competitive spirit and camaraderie between these siblings.

Both the Greigs and Bathersons have built a unique support system, providing each other with encouragement throughout the grueling hockey season. Mae’s impressive start has sparked discussions about her potential future with the national team as veteran players age out.

Drake believes in his sister’s trajectory, stating, “She’s finding her stride in the league. It takes time to adjust, but the quicker you do, the more successful you become. Mae’s working hard to earn a spot at training camp or even the Olympic team.”

Though Mae won’t be present for this year’s Women in Sport night, the event’s significance isn’t lost on Drake. “Playing professional hockey is a dream for my sister, and celebrating that is always special,” he shared.

In the world of hockey, where the grind is relentless, having a sibling who understands the journey can make all the difference. For the Greigs and Bathersons, it’s a bond that fuels their passion and drives them forward on the ice.
