Toronto sports host Sid Seixeiro isn’t brushing off Brad Marchand’s jab at Tim Stutzle. He’s calling it what he sees it as: “highly disrespectful.”
The reaction came after Marchand mocked reports that Stutzle is a finalist for the Ottawa Senators captaincy, posting, “Hahahah …..stutzle….hahaha.”
Seixeiro pushed back hard on the comment and said Ottawa should answer when the Senators and Florida Panthers meet later this season.
“Brad Marchand on his Instagram account replied to this and wrote, ‘Ha ha ha, Stutzle, ha ha ha ha.’ It sounds like Marchand might not be healthy for that.
Tim Stutzle is a pretty good hockey player. He’s not like a superstar.
I don’t know if I’d make him captain. But this is highly disrespectful stuff.
And I know a lot of people have different takes on Marchand," said Sid.
He didn’t stop there. Seixeiro argued that if Ottawa wants to establish a tougher identity, the next matchup with Florida should come with a response.
“If you want to set a new culture in Ottawa against a Brady Tkachuk team, the next time you see Florida, take the fine and let them know you’re there, and defend your kid, Stutzle. The Sens can’t let this go now unchecked.
I believe, because if you do, you’re a weak franchise. You’re not a real franchise.
The Leafs have been letting the stuff go for 10 years with Marchand and other people.”
Stutzle is one of the leading names being discussed as Ottawa’s next captain, along with Thomas Chabot and Jake Sanderson.
The conversation around Marchand and Ottawa has been building since former Senators captain Brady Tkachuk was traded to the Florida Panthers in June. On the Wingmen podcast with his brother Matthew Tkachuk, Brady said he was eager to join up with Marchand.
“Just so many great players, like, just look at the roster. Like, I’ll be happy to play with him.
I’ll be lucky to play with him. Nobody’s more excited than me.
I legit can’t wait, and you know what, whatever coach thinks is best for the team. Marchy, like, what a great career he’s had.”
Tkachuk is set to make his first return to Canadian Tire Centre as a Panthers player on Oct. 21.
