James Reimer Stuns Vancouver With Impressive Shutout Performance

Veteran goalie James Reimer shines with a crucial shutout win, as the Ottawa Senators navigate challenges in their playoff push.

James Reimer delivered a stellar performance for the Senators, leading them to a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Canucks with a shutout. While he faced just 16 shots, many were high-quality chances, showcasing his sharp reflexes. This marks Reimer's first shutout of the season and his first since April 8, 2025.

This win is particularly significant as it follows the announcement that Jake Sanderson will be sidelined week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

The Senators brought in Reimer, 37, on a budget-friendly one-year deal back in January after Linus Ullmark took a leave of absence. With Leevi Merilainen and Mads Sogaard struggling, Reimer's performance has been a welcome boost for Ottawa's goaltending this season.

Ullmark and Reimer: A Promising Duo

The Senators are banking on the goaltending duo of Linus Ullmark and James Reimer to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Currently, Ottawa ranks low in team save percentage but sits 20th in goals-against average. This discrepancy is due to head coach Travis Green's emphasis on a shot-suppression strategy. Opponents may have fewer shots, but they tend to be high-quality scoring chances.

In his eight games this season, Reimer has a save percentage of 0.882, but his goals-against average of 2.53 tells a more positive story. Despite the save percentage, the goals-against average indicates solid performance.

Ullmark, since his return, has been delivering exactly what the Senators need. He boasts a 5-0-2 record in his seven games back, with an average of just 2.43 goals against. If Reimer and Ullmark maintain this level of play over the remaining 19 games, Ottawa could very well find themselves in the playoff mix.
