Toronto sports host Sid Seixeiro is taking aim at the Ottawa Senators for reportedly planning a video tribute for Brady Tkachuk when he returns to Canadian Tire Centre on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
On his show, Seixeiro argued that Tkachuk should not be receiving that kind of recognition after asking out of Ottawa earlier this summer.
“The Ottawa Senators this week did talk about the Brady Tkachuk return on Wednesday, October 21st, at Canadian Tire Centre, and he let it be known there will be a welcome back video for Brady Tkachuk that night in Ottawa. But let me put this on the table: How many Sens fans are going to be there on October 21st and go home and go, ‘I’m really disappointed that we didn’t honour the coward who demanded his way out of town back on June 21st’?
Man, this pis*es me off. Not everyone deserves the video,” said Sid.
He didn’t stop there.
“They don’t care about you. Why do you care about their video?
It’s pathetic. This stuff has to end across the board in all sports.
Brady Tkachuk was done with you 18 months ago, and you knew it. Do not honour this guy.
He’s spat in everyone’s face. He lied to you on the way out.
Don’t thank him with a video, please.”
Brady was dealt to the Florida Panthers in June after requesting a trade, and the Panthers are bringing him back to Ottawa on Oct. 21. The Senators are reportedly planning to show the tribute during the first television timeout of the game.
Tkachuk’s exit came just over a week after Ottawa’s first-round playoff loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. On June 21, the Senators sent him to Florida in a blockbuster move that also allowed him to join his brother Matthew Tkachuk.
For many Senators fans, the deal landed like a gut punch. Brady had been the face of the franchise and captain for five seasons, and his departure left plenty of people feeling betrayed. The organization sees the video as a fitting way to recognize those five years, but Seixeiro and a chunk of the fan base clearly disagree.
