The Orlando Magic will soon know what their 2026-27 road map looks like, and a few dates should jump off the page as the league releases schedules throughout the week.
There’s one game in particular that figures to carry extra heat in Orlando. The Magic still haven’t shaken the pain from their final home game at the Kia Center in early May, when they blew a 24-point lead against the top-seeded Detroit Pistons in Game 6 of their first-round series. A win would have finished off the upset and pushed Orlando into the second round for the first time since 2010.
Instead, the Magic were held to just 19 points over the final 24 minutes in a second-half collapse that turned the night into a brutal loss. The series went back to Detroit for Game 7, where Orlando had no shot against the Pistons.
So when Detroit comes to Orlando for the first time in the 2026-27 season, that one should have a little extra juice. The crowd will be waiting for it, and new head coach Sean Sweeney gets a chance to put his own stamp on the matchup while facing the East’s No. 1 team from a year ago.
The NBA Cup also gives Orlando another path to some early-season momentum. Last season, the Magic went 4-0 in group play, advanced to the knockout round and beat the Miami Heat at home before heading to Las Vegas for the semifinal, where they fell to the eventual champion New York Knicks.
This year’s group looks workable again. Orlando is slated to face the Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets. With the Bucks and Nets both offering chances against rebuilding teams, the Magic have an opportunity to build up their point differential as they chase another trip to the knockout round.
The home slate should also bring more star power to the Kia Center. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s trade to the Heat means he should be in Orlando more often this season.
LeBron James, who had been with the Los Angeles Lakers and visited Orlando once per year over the last eight years, could now come twice as often. Kawhi Leonard, meanwhile, is in the process of having a trade finalized to the Raptors from the Los Angeles Clippers.
Orlando will also see No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa multiple times, since he is a division rival with the Washington Wizards.

Magic Fans Will Need To Adjust To A New TV Reality
The Magic are preparing for a noticeable change in how fans will watch the team once the 2026-27 season arrives. Orlando announced a new television partnership with Cox Media Group that will shift most regular-season broadcasts to WRDQ-TV 27, with some games also airing on WFTV Channel 9, giving the team a fresh local TV setup after years of familiar viewing habits.
The broadcast overhaul comes with a new on-air cast as well, with Dante Marchitelli taking over as full-time play-by-play voice, Jeff Turner staying on as analyst and Kendra Douglas joining as team reporter.
