Magic Get Boost as Franz Wagner Upgraded Ahead of Bucks Showdown

Franz Wagner's upgraded status hints at a timely return for the surging Magic as they prepare for a key matchup against the Bucks.

The Orlando Magic are riding a bit of a wave right now. After dismantling the Brooklyn Nets and grinding out a win against the Utah Jazz, they’ve strung together a two-game win streak and have their eyes set on a tough Monday night matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks. But while the momentum is building, the team is still navigating a key injury situation - the status of Franz Wagner.

Wagner, who’s been sidelined with a high ankle sprain, spoke after Saturday’s win over Utah and gave a bit of insight into where things stand. The 24-year-old forward made it clear that his target is to return before the All-Star break, and he's already taken some encouraging steps in that direction.

“That's my hope for sure [to be back before All-Star Break],” Wagner said. “I think I had two good workouts today and the other gameday. Really just seeing how my foot responds to that.”

That’s the kind of update Magic fans want to hear - not just optimism, but progress. Wagner’s been ramping things up, testing the ankle in workouts, and seeing how it holds up. If all goes well, he could sneak in a couple of games before the break, which would be huge for both him and a Magic team that’s been quietly climbing.

Wagner’s impact can’t be overstated. In the 26 games he’s played this season, he’s averaging 22.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting a highly efficient 48.2% from the field and 36.8% from deep.

That’s not just solid production - that’s top-tier two-way wing play. He’s been a stabilizing force on both ends, and his absence has been felt, even as the Magic have managed to string together wins.

Now, with just two games left before the All-Star break - both against the Bucks - the window is narrow but open. If Wagner’s ankle responds well to the increased workload, we could see him back in action as soon as Monday night.

As for the official injury report: Wagner is listed as available, which is a promising sign. That doesn’t guarantee minutes, but it does suggest the team believes he’s close - if not ready - to return to the floor.

The Bucks, on the other hand, are dealing with some significant absences of their own. Giannis Antetokounmpo is out with a right calf strain, which obviously changes the dynamic of this matchup in a big way. Alex Antetokounmpo is also out on a G League assignment, and Taurean Prince remains sidelined following neck surgery.

For the Magic, Colin Castleton remains out on a two-way G League assignment.

So, what does this mean for Monday night? If Wagner does suit up, it’ll be a welcome boost for a Magic squad that’s starting to find its rhythm.

Even limited minutes from him could help Orlando continue building momentum heading into the break. And with Giannis out, the Magic have a real opportunity to make a statement - especially if one of their most important players is back in the fold.

Keep an eye on this one. Wagner’s return could be the spark that takes this young, hungry Magic team to the next level.
