The Orlando Magic already know the shape of their NBA Cup road, and it’s a group that mixes fresh intrigue with a couple of familiar headaches.
Wednesday’s release of the inaugural Emirates NBA Cup schedule gave Orlando its Group A opponents: the Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons. The Magic will see those games in that order, with the broader 2026-27 NBA schedule set to come out Thursday.
Two dates stand out right away for Orlando. The Magic will host the Nets on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. before traveling to Detroit for a Nov. 24 matchup with the Pistons at 7 p.m. ET.
Last season, Orlando handled group play with ease, going 4-0 before knocking off the Miami Heat in the quarterfinal round. That run ended in the semifinal on Dec. 13, when the Magic fell to the New York Knicks.
This year’s group brings a different set of challenges. Toronto was bounced in the first round of the playoffs last season, and the Raptors have tried to strengthen their roster by reuniting with Kawhi Leonard through a trade.
That deal has not been completed because Leonard is tied to controversy over questionable endorsements in an effort to work around the salary cap during his Clippers tenure. It remains unclear when the trade will be finalized or whether Leonard would face a suspension, and that situation could matter a lot for Orlando’s outlook against a Toronto team that also features young talent.
Milwaukee, meanwhile, looks very different after a franchise-altering move that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Heat in exchange for Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware and Kasparas Jakucionis. For the Magic, there’s at least some familiarity there after so many battles with the Heat as Southeast Division rivals last season.
And then there’s Detroit, which gives Orlando an immediate rematch with the team that knocked the Magic out of the playoffs last season. That one figures to carry the closest thing to a playoff feel early in the new campaign.
