The NBA has handed down fines to Orlando Magic guard Desmond Bane and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, each receiving a $25,000 penalty. The league announced the fines on Thursday, Feb. 26, citing incidents where both players threw the game ball into the spectator stands during recent games.
Bane's incident occurred at the end of the Magic's narrow 110-109 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 24. After Deandre Ayton's buzzer-beating basket, Bane launched the ball down the court, prompting the league's disciplinary action.
Similarly, Edwards was fined for a comparable incident during the Timberwolves' win against the Portland Blazers. After collecting a rebound at the end of the first half, Edwards tossed the ball down the court, inadvertently striking a fan seated near a stanchion.
Looking ahead, the Magic are gearing up for a home game against the Houston Rockets on Thursday. This matchup marks their first home appearance since Feb. 11, when they faced a surprising defeat against a depleted Bucks team.
Currently leading the Southeast Division, the Magic have expanded their lead over the Miami Heat, having bested them in all four encounters this season. They sit seventh in the Eastern Conference, just a half-game behind the Philadelphia 76ers.
In other news, the Atlanta Hawks are preparing for a unique celebration during their home game against the Magic on March 16. The event will highlight a collaboration with Magic City, a renowned cultural institution in Atlanta. The Hawks plan to bring the "best of" Magic City to fans at State Farm Arena, creating a memorable theme night.
Hawks principal owner Jami Gertz expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting its significance in celebrating the impact of Magic City on Atlanta's culture. This special event promises to be a highlight for fans and a nod to the city's vibrant heritage.
