Oregon Suffers Unexpected Recruiting Loss

Iowa State secures a strategic recruiting victory by landing highly sought-after EDGE prospect Ty Tautolo for their 2027 class.

Iowa State picked up a major boost for its 2027 recruiting class on Wednesday when 3-star EDGE Ty Tautolo announced his commitment to the Cyclones.

“100% committed!!! Thank you God! @CoachBibbs52 @CycloneFB @ISURogers3 @BrandonHuffman pic.twitter.com/AdQ9iw1iNB”

Tautolo, who plays at Lake Stevens High School in Lake Stevens, Washington, checks in at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds. That size alone makes him an appealing add on the defensive front, and his offer list shows just how heavily recruited he was. Per 247Sports, Tautolo held offers from Michigan, Nebraska, UCLA, Arizona, Cal, Oregon, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Notre Dame, and Washington, among others.

The Cyclones’ win here also traces back to a relationship that started long before Jimmy Rogers arrived in Ames. Rogers and his staff first offered Tautolo while they were at Washington State, sending out that offer two summers ago before Rogers coached his first season with the Cougars. That connection followed Rogers to Iowa State and helped push the Cyclones over the top.

Tautolo also joins a familiar face in the 2027 class. He is teammates with another Iowa State commit, 3-star WR/ATH Blake Moser.

For Rogers and his staff, this is an early recruiting victory with real weight behind it. Tautolo had a long list of major programs in the mix, but Iowa State’s persistent relationship-building paid off.

It also says something about how the Cyclones are recruiting under Rogers. Landing a Washington prospect over a collection of Power Four programs stands out, especially this deep into the 2027 cycle.

And at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, Tautolo gives Iowa State a prospect with the kind of frame it can keep molding at EDGE. He’s not just another name in the class - he’s a big piece for the Cyclones to build around as they keep putting the 2027 group together.

Oregon State Faces A Bigger Test Than Saturdays Betting Line Suggests

Saturdays matchup at Reser Stadium looks straightforward on paper, with Oregon State laying 6.5 points against Texas State, but the deeper read from the other sideline suggests a game that could ask more questions than the line implies. A Q&A with Texas State beat reporter Caleb Yum painted a picture of a Bobcats team that has enough offensive punch to make things interesting, while also carrying the kind of defensive concerns that can turn a road trip into a track meet.

Much of the focus centered on quarterback Brad Jackson, whose strengths and weaknesses help define how Texas State wants to play and where Oregon State can try to press its advantage. The preview also pointed to the defensive challenges the Bobcats will have to survive if they want to leave Corvallis with a result, which is why this one feels less like a routine home favorite spot and more like a test of whether the Beavers can control the game before the broadcast and streaming audience settles in for a long afternoon. Oregon States Rebuilt Roster Is Sending An Early Message

Oregon States early-season reset is looking a lot more polished than most rebuilt rosters do in November. The Beavers rolled past Cal Baptist 96-68, leaned on a fast-paced offensive approach, and showed a balance that suggested the new players and new coaching staff are settling in quickly. Legend Smiley was at the center of it, giving Oregon State a steady scoring presence while the team also made its living attacking the paint and finishing at a high clip inside the arc.

The bigger takeaway for the Beavers is what the performance said about their cohesion. Even with so many fresh pieces, Oregon State moved well enough to keep pressure on Cal Baptist from start to finish and looked comfortable playing the kind of basketball that can travel once the schedule gets tougher. At 2-0, the record is still early, but the way the Beavers are already sharing the load and generating efficient offense is the sort of message a program wants to send before league play starts to matter. Oregon States Fast Start Is Giving Beavers Fans Real Reason To Believe

Oregon States early-season momentum kept rolling with a convincing 96-68 win over Cal Baptist, a result that gave the Beavers another clean look at how much balance they can bring on offense. Josiah Lake, Deshawn Gory and Xavion Staton all chipped in as part of a deep scoring night, helping Oregon State move to 2-0 and giving the home crowd plenty to like about the way this group is coming together.

The next test comes against Eastern Washington, and it arrives with a little more buzz around this team than there might have been a week ago. Fast starts can be misleading this time of year, but Oregon State has already shown enough scoring depth and energy to make its opening stretch feel more than just a warm-up, which is exactly the kind of foundation the Beavers have been looking for.
