Oregon State closed out its week in British Columbia with another exhibition win, getting past the University of Victoria 92-88 on Saturday afternoon at CARSA Performance Gym.
Daniel Freitag powered the Beavers with 24 points, while DeShawn Gory added 22 points and nine rebounds as Oregon State earned its third exhibition victory of the trip. The Beavers built a 52-41 lead by halftime and held on from there.
Freitag did a lot of his damage at the line, hitting 14 of 18 free throws. Oregon State as a team was even more relentless there, finishing 31 of 42 on free throws to help seal the result.
“I thought we were pretty connected offensively in the first half,” Oregon State coach Justin Joyner said. “They did a good job of taking us out of our stuff with some of their switching. ... I thought our guys did a great job of adjusting.”
Gory, the Fresno State transfer, handled a heavy workload for Oregon State. He led the Beavers in shot attempts and minutes, going 6 of 10 from the field, 2 of 4 from three and 8 of 10 at the line while logging 32 minutes.
Chris Johnson was next in line offensively for OSU with 14 points and six rebounds.
Josiah Lake II chipped in eight points on perfect 4-for-4 shooting off the bench, and Xavion Staton finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
Oregon State used 11 of its 13 players, with Sean Blakely Drummond not seeing action.
