Oregon State’s trip to Houston has already started to stir up plenty of noise before the first snap is even taken.
The Beavers open their season Saturday against No. 23 Houston at TDECU Stadium in Houston, Texas, with JaMarcus Shephard making his head coaching debut. And on social media, Oregon State fans have been leaning hard into the matchup, with confidence and curiosity running side by side.
One fan, @ChillNRelaxed, didn’t leave much room for ambiguity: "No doubt about it. Oregon State goes to Houston and makes Trent Walker regret his decisions," @ChillNRelaxed wrote on x.com.
"Yeah, I said it out loud. Either you're with us.
Or you're against us. There is no middle ground.
#GoBeavs."
Not everyone was firing off predictions so much as taking in the feel of the game itself. The matchup has the look of an early test with both teams carrying something to prove, and that has drawn attention too.

Houston has its supporters as well, including former Oregon State coach turned college football analyst Zak Bigelow, who came in strong on the Cougars.

"I've been screaming it all year and one of my first plays this summer was Houston -18.5 (-110) And yes I keep betting against teams I coached at (Oregon State) We're pairing a great staff, with a very experienced roster, with strong proven production. Revenge spot (they didn't lose, but they struggled) I think Coogs take a leap this year."
There’s also been some focus on Oregon State’s defense, especially from fans looking back at last season’s meeting. @caseykahler pointed to Beavers defensive tackle Jacob Schuster and his two-sack showing against Houston a year ago.
"What will Oregon State's DT Jacob Schuster have up his sleeve SAT vs Houston Cougars?" @caseykahler wrote, pointing back to Schuster's two-sack performance against the Cougars last season.
