Oregon State Gets Its First Real Test Of A New Era

The Oregon State Beavers, led by new head coach Justin Joyner, are determined to maintain their strong start to the season as they square off against Cal Baptist at Gill Coliseum on Friday.

Oregon State is back at Gill Coliseum on Friday night with a chance to keep its season moving in the right direction against Cal Baptist.

The Beavers opened the year with 102 points on Monday, their highest total in a season-opener since the 2012-13 season, and now they’ll try to stack another win on top of it. Oregon State has started the last four seasons 2-0, and that’s the early goal again as Cal Baptist comes to town.

This is also the first home stretch of the Justin Joyner era. Joyner is in his first season leading the Beavers after winning a national championship as an assistant coach with Michigan last season. Oregon State’s roster looks almost entirely new around him, with just one returner from the 2025-26 team.

That lone holdover is Josiah Lake II, the guard who earned All-WCC First Team honors last season. He’s the only remaining Beaver from last year’s squad, while the rest of the roster has been rebuilt with 12 newcomers.

Oregon State is also making its return to the Pac-12 this season after spending the previous two campaigns in the WCC. The revamped league now includes Gonzaga, Boise State, Washington State, Utah State, Colorado State, Texas State, Fresno State, and San Diego State.

The nonconference slate includes a home game against former conference opponent Arizona State, and 22 of Oregon State’s regular-season games are set to air on linear television.

Before the season even tipped off, the Beavers got a taste of game action this summer on a foreign tour in Canada. They beat Trinity Western to start the trip and then picked up two more wins over the University of Victoria.

Friday’s game will be televised on the Pac-12 YouTube channel and aired on the Beaver Sports Radio Network with Mike Parker on the call.

Kansas State Brings A Volatile Offense Into A Huge Test With Oklahoma State

Kansas States offense has been searching for stability all month, and Collin Klein said the next turn in the rotation will belong to Blake Barnett against Oklahoma State. It will be the Wildcats fourth different starting quarterback in four weeks, a jarring stretch for any team trying to find rhythm, but Klein pointed to Barnetts recent performance and the way he has competed as reasons for confidence heading into a difficult matchup.

The challenge only gets bigger with Oklahoma State on the other side, and Klein made clear the Wildcats cannot afford to drift from who they are. For Kansas State, the priority is staying grounded in its identity while becoming more consistent on both sides of the ball, a familiar coaching message that suddenly carries extra weight in a game with real stakes. Oregon State Heads To Boise With More At Stake Than Expected

The first College Football Playoff rankings offered a clear snapshot of where the Group of Six race stands, and it was Boise State that landed in the spotlight as the lone team from that tier to crack the initial top 25. The Broncos sit at No. 25 and, for now, are projected into an opening-round matchup with Alabama, a reminder of how narrow the path is for the rest of the Group of Six contenders trying to stay in the conversation.

For Oregon State, the trip to Boise carries a little more weight than it might have a few weeks ago. The Beavers are still among the teams tracking the Group of Six picture, but recent results have made the margin for error much thinner, and the latest odds movement reflects that. With Boise State setting the pace and New Mexico and UTSA also in the mix, Oregon State heads in knowing the race is still alive, just less forgiving than it looked before the stumble against Fresno State. Oregon State Just Added To A Roster Battle Fans Know Too Well

Recent athletic department news brought a familiar kind of roster-watch intrigue for Oregon State, with Braden Atkinson and Jesse Legree both added to the Blue Ribbon Elite NIL program. For a program trying to keep its footing in a changing college football landscape, these kinds of updates matter because they can signal where the Beavers are investing support behind the scenes as much as any depth-chart move does on the field.

The addition fits into the broader Blue Ribbon Elite collective that has become part of the backdrop for Oregon States roster management, and it had been anticipated for some time. For fans, it is another reminder that the battle around retaining and rewarding key players is no longer limited to spring ball or fall camp, with the work now happening in parallel to everything else the program is trying to build.
