Oklahoma State Star Wendell Gregory Set to Enter Portal After Breakout Year

One of college footballs top young defenders is on the move again amid major roster turnover at Oklahoma State.

Wendell Gregory to Enter Transfer Portal After Standout Season at Oklahoma State

One of the brightest young defensive talents in the Big 12 is on the move.

Oklahoma State edge rusher Wendell Gregory is officially entering the transfer portal, capping off a breakout redshirt freshman season that saw him emerge as a force on a Cowboys defense that needed every spark it could get. Gregory led OSU in both sacks (4) and tackles for loss (12), putting himself squarely on the national radar - and now, on the radar of programs across the country.

His 12 tackles for loss weren’t just tops on the team - they were the most by any freshman in the FBS this season. That production earned him Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year honors, along with a spot on the All-Big 12 Third Team. Not bad for a player in just his second year of college football.

Gregory’s journey to Stillwater started in Marietta, Georgia, where he was a four-star recruit in the 2024 class. Ranked No. 179 nationally by the 247Sports Composite, he had no shortage of options coming out of high school. He initially committed to South Carolina, choosing the Gamecocks over offers from programs like Auburn, Michigan, Tennessee, USC, and Arkansas.

After one season in Columbia, he made the move to Oklahoma State - and hit the ground running. In his debut against UT-Martin, Gregory was flat-out dominant.

He notched three sacks in that game alone, immediately showing off the kind of explosiveness and closing speed that makes offensive coordinators lose sleep. While he didn’t record another sack until late November against UCF, his impact never waned.

Gregory consistently disrupted plays behind the line, including a three-TFL performance against Arizona that showcased his ability to read and react with veteran-level instincts.

Now, with the portal officially open, Gregory becomes one of the most intriguing defensive names available. His combination of production, pedigree, and remaining eligibility will make him a hot commodity.

Oklahoma State, meanwhile, continues to feel the ripple effects of head coach Mike Gundy’s firing back in September. Gregory is just the latest - and perhaps most high-profile - of more than 30 players to enter the portal since that decision.

Where Gregory lands next remains to be seen, but one thing’s clear: any program looking for a disruptive edge presence with a nose for the backfield just got a major opportunity.
