Oklahoma State WR Shamar Rigby Enters Transfer Portal After Breakout Sophomore Season
Another key piece of Oklahoma State’s passing game is heading for the transfer portal. Sophomore wide receiver Shamar Rigby, who emerged as one of the Cowboys’ top targets this past season, has officially announced his intention to transfer.
Rigby made the move to Stillwater from Purdue, following offensive assistant Cory Patterson. And by his own admission, that connection was the driving force behind his decision. “To be honest, I really just followed him,” Rigby said about his path to OSU.
Now, after a productive year in orange and black, Rigby is once again looking for a new home.
On social media, Rigby expressed gratitude to Oklahoma State and the Cowboy community:
“I want to thank Oklahoma State University, the coaching staff, my teammates, and the Cowboy community for the opportunity to be part of such a proud program,” he wrote. “My time in Stillwater has helped shape me both on and off the field, and I’m truly grateful for the experiences and relationships I’ve gained here.”
A Versatile Weapon on the Move
Rigby’s departure is a notable one. At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, he brought size, speed, and versatility to the Cowboys’ offense.
He finished third on the team in receiving yards this season, hauling in 25 catches for 351 yards and a touchdown. That score came on a connection with quarterback Zane Flores in the game against Kansas.
But Rigby’s impact wasn’t limited to just catching passes. He also showed off his arm, throwing a 63-yard touchdown pass to Rodney Fields Jr. on a trick play against Houston - a reminder of the kind of creative weapon he can be in the right system.
Before his time in Stillwater, Rigby played in all 12 games as a true freshman at Purdue in 2024. There, he posted 11 receptions for 113 yards - modest numbers, but enough to flash the potential that would later blossom at OSU.
Another Hit to an Already-Thin WR Room
Rigby’s entry into the portal marks the fifth Oklahoma State wide receiver to seek a transfer this cycle, joining Jaylen Llyod, Tre Griffiths, Talyn Shettron, and Cam Abshire. That’s a significant chunk of the Cowboys’ receiving corps, and it comes at a time of transition for the program.
The transfer portal has been buzzing in Stillwater for months now. When Mike Gundy was fired in September, it triggered a 30-day portal window for OSU players.
With Eric Morris now stepping in as head coach and a new 15-day transfer window opening, the roster movement has picked up again. And with the national portal window set to open on January 2, more changes could be on the horizon.
What’s Next for Rigby?
There’s no word yet on where Rigby might land, but his combination of size, athleticism, and playmaking ability - both as a receiver and a gadget player - will no doubt attract attention from programs looking to bolster their receiving unit.
For now, his departure adds to the growing list of questions surrounding Oklahoma State’s offensive identity moving forward. With a new coaching staff and a retooling roster, the Cowboys will have some serious holes to fill - and Rigby leaves behind one of the bigger ones.
Stay tuned. The portal season is just heating up.
