Oklahoma State Lands 2026 QB Luke Tepas - A Potential Gem in Eric Morris’ System
Eric Morris might’ve just found his next quarterback - and true to form, it’s someone flying a bit under the national radar.
Luke Tepas, a 2026 quarterback out of Barrington High School in Illinois, announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Tuesday night. At 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, Tepas brings the kind of frame coaches love - tall enough to see the field clearly and sturdy enough to take hits in the pocket.
But it’s not just the size that makes him intriguing. The numbers from his senior season tell a story of efficiency and upside.
Tepas threw for 2,254 yards and 24 touchdowns while completing 61% of his passes. He kept mistakes to a minimum, tossing just six interceptions over 213 attempts. That’s a passer rating of 122.9 - solid production that suggests he’s more than just a developmental project.
Now, Tepas joins a quarterback room that’s already seen some movement. The Cowboys recently signed Broderick Vehrs, a 2026 QB who had previously committed to Morris at North Texas.
And just a day before Tepas’ announcement, OSU quarterback Zane Flores reportedly entered the transfer portal. Add in the uncertain future of Drew Mestemaker - Morris’ former QB1 at UNT - and it’s clear this is a position in transition.
But if there’s one thing Morris has shown throughout his coaching journey, it’s that he knows how to find and develop quarterback talent - even when others don’t see it coming.
During his introductory press conference at Oklahoma State, Morris made it clear he’s not afraid to go against the grain when it comes to quarterback recruiting.
“If I take a three-star quarterback, nobody get mad at me,” Morris said. “We have a set of qualifications and a kind of formula that we use to recruit these guys.”
That formula has worked before. Morris has built a reputation for identifying quarterbacks who fit his system, regardless of how many stars are next to their name. And while Tepas isn’t currently ranked by the major scouting services, that doesn’t mean he lacks talent - it just means he hasn’t hit the national radar yet.
For now, Tepas looks like a classic Morris pick: under-scouted, productive, and physically gifted. The kind of player who might not make headlines on signing day, but could be making plays in Boone Pickens Stadium before long.
And if history is any indication, fans would be wise to trust the process.
