Oklahoma State Back in the Mix for Grant Seagren as Portal Visits Line Up
Grant Seagren is back on the recruiting board-and Oklahoma State is very much still in the picture.
The standout offensive tackle, who entered the transfer portal during the season but continued to suit up for the Cowboys, has lined up a fresh round of visits. Among the schools getting a closer look: Auburn (Jan.
2-3), Oklahoma State (Jan. 3-4), Northwestern (Jan. 5-6), and Arkansas (TBA).
And while the portal is full of movement this time of year, Seagren’s situation stands out for a few reasons.
First off, he’s not just another name in the portal. Seagren is currently ranked as the No. 2 offensive tackle available, and his combination of size, athleticism, and game experience makes him one of the most coveted linemen on the market.
But what makes this recruitment especially intriguing is the fact that Seagren isn’t exactly a stranger to Stillwater. He transferred into Oklahoma State ahead of the 2025 season after walking on at Nebraska, where he made seven appearances in 2024. By the time he hit the field for the Cowboys, he’d transformed from a 6-foot-6, 255-pound high school tight end into a 311-pound force on the offensive line.
His breakout moment came when he was called into action due to an injury just before the Oregon game. From there, he didn’t look back.
Seagren played in 11 games this season and logged the third-most offensive snaps on the team, trailing only veterans Bob Schick and Nuku Mafi. That kind of rapid rise doesn’t go unnoticed.
Then came the shakeup. The firing of Mike Gundy midseason opened the door for Seagren to enter the portal, and he took it.
But unlike many players who leave immediately after declaring, Seagren stuck around. He stayed in the locker room, kept practicing, and kept playing.
That says a lot.
“I love this place. I love the people, and they’ve poured a lot into me,” Seagren said.
“Just coming in in the summer and the start of the season, I still play for those people every day. Some of the guys, this is it for them.
They deserve the best out of me just as much as I deserve the best out of them. It’s just kind of a reciprocating thing.
It’s all about just giving back to those people that give to you.”
That kind of loyalty doesn’t go unnoticed either. And while the portal is designed to give players new opportunities, sometimes the best fit is the one you already know.
Now, with new head coach Eric Morris taking the reins at Oklahoma State, the Cowboys get another shot to re-recruit a player who’s already proven he can be a difference-maker in their system. Seagren’s visit to Stillwater will give him a chance to get familiar with Morris’ vision for the program and how he might fit into a revamped offensive scheme.
Sure, Auburn, Northwestern, and Arkansas are all compelling options, each with their own pitch and opportunities. But Oklahoma State has something the others don’t: a head start.
Seagren’s already been in the building, in the trenches, and in the fight with this team. That kind of familiarity can go a long way-especially when you’re trying to build something new with players who already believe in the program.
The ball’s in Seagren’s court now. He’s earned the right to explore his options.
But don’t count out the Cowboys just yet. They’ve still got a shot to keep one of the portal’s top tackles right where he is.
