Oklahoma State Adds Key Coaches as Eric Morris Builds His New Staff

Oklahoma State continues to reshape its football staff under Eric Morris, bringing in two seasoned coaches with deep ties to both college and pro programs.

Oklahoma State’s coaching staff is starting to take shape under new head coach Eric Morris, and two key hires were made official on Tuesday-one in the weight room, and one in the wide receiver room.

Bryan Kegans is reuniting with Morris in Stillwater, stepping in as the Cowboys’ new head of strength and conditioning. Kegans has been a trusted part of Morris’ inner circle for years, having worked alongside him throughout all three seasons at North Texas. His impact there earned him the title of assistant head coach over the past two seasons, a sign of just how integral he was to the program’s identity and development.

But Kegans’ résumé goes far beyond his time in Denton. He’s spent time with some of the biggest programs in college football, including stints with Lincoln Riley at both Oklahoma and USC, where he served as director of sports performance.

Before that, he cut his teeth at Texas as an assistant strength and conditioning coach back in 2013 and 2014. And for those who love a good full-circle moment-Kegans and Morris go way back to their playing days at Texas Tech, where they shared two seasons as teammates on the Red Raiders' roster from 2002 to 2005.

On the offensive side of the ball, Nick Edwards has been tapped to coach Oklahoma State’s wide receivers. Unlike many of Morris’ recent hires, Edwards is a fresh face from outside the North Texas pipeline, bringing a diverse and well-traveled coaching background to Stillwater. Most recently, he coached wideouts at Wake Forest, where his group helped the Demon Deacons finish 22nd in the country in yards per catch, averaging an impressive 13.15 per reception this season.

Edwards' coaching journey began at Eastern Washington in 2014, and it didn’t take long for him to make an impact-he coached a young Cooper Kupp, who would go on to become one of the NFL’s most polished and productive receivers with the Los Angeles Rams. From there, Edwards built a résumé that includes stops at Cal, the Minnesota Vikings, Cal Poly (where he served as offensive coordinator), the Atlanta Falcons, and Washington State.

As a player, Edwards was no slouch either. He starred at Eastern Washington from 2009 to 2012, winning an FCS national title in 2010 and earning All-American honors in 2011. That playing pedigree, combined with his coaching versatility at both the college and NFL levels, makes him a compelling addition to Morris’ offensive staff.

With these two hires, Morris is continuing to build a staff that blends familiarity with fresh ideas. Kegans brings continuity and a deep understanding of Morris’ culture, while Edwards injects new energy and a track record of developing top-tier receiver talent. For Oklahoma State fans, it’s another step in what’s shaping up to be a new era in Stillwater-one that’s being carefully constructed from the ground up.
