USC Just Helped Oregon In A Way Trojans Fans Will Hate

After a crucial victory over USC, Oregon's national championship odds see modest improvement amid lingering concerns about quarterback health and strong competition.

No. 15 Oregon finally found the kind of win the market had been waiting on, taking down then-No.

12 USC 41-27 on the road. But if the Ducks expected a major jump in the national championship race, the betting boards told a different story.

The biggest reason is the uncertainty around quarterback Dante Moore, whose health now hangs over Dan Lanning’s program. Even after the statement win, Oregon’s title odds only moved from +2500 to +2200 at BetMGM, a modest shift that nudged the Ducks’ implied chance from 3.85 percent to 4.35 percent.

That’s a better number, sure. It’s not the kind of leap that puts Oregon back in the same breath as Ohio State, Texas, and Georgia.

The Ducks had already seen their title odds slide earlier this season, dropping from +2000 to +2500 at BetMGM even after the 84-0 Week 3 win over Portland State. Saturday’s result against USC helped, but not enough to erase the doubt still attached to this team.

FanDuel made the same move, shortening Oregon from +2500 to +2200. DraftKings was less impressed, actually lengthening the Ducks from +2200 last week to +2300. That split says plenty about where the market stands right now: the win mattered, but the questions matter more.

Moore’s injury was the gut punch inside the victory. He was carted off the field and into a waiting ambulance at the 10:05 mark of the second quarter after taking a brutal hit from USC linebacker Desman Stephens II, who was flagged for targeting and ejected.

Doctors diagnosed Moore with a concussion, but reported a clean MRI and no additional injuries. His timetable to return remains unclear, though Oregon at least gets a bye week before hosting No.

23 UCLA at Autzen Stadium on Oct. 10.

In Moore’s absence, Dylan Raiola delivered a sharp answer. He guided Oregon to its 10th straight conference win, going 19-of-25 for 289 yards and two touchdowns.

So the Ducks have the result oddsmakers wanted to see. They just haven’t convinced anyone yet that they’re ready to climb all the way back into the elite tier. Oregon opened the year at +700 on BetMGM, and now it has to work its way back up one step at a time.

The road back is at least clear on paper. Oregon is 2-1 against three teams that are now ranked in No.

22 Boise State, No. 19 Oklahoma State and the No.

18 Trojans in the latest AP poll. And it’s possible the same teams that knocked the Ducks down early will end up helping them rise again.

USC Quarterback's Response To Dante Moore Injury Has Oregon Fans Talking

A late hit on Oregon quarterback Dante Moore turned a tense stretch of the USC game into something bigger than the final score, and Jayden Maiavas reaction did not go unnoticed. After Moore was diagnosed with a concussion, Maiava stayed near the injured Duck, a brief but striking moment in a game that already had plenty of bad blood because of the targeting call that got USC linebacker Desman Stephens ejected.

For Oregon fans, the scene added another layer to a matchup that had already swung on discipline and physicality. Maiava still put together a strong passing night with 326 yards and two touchdowns in USCs 41-27 loss, but the image of the quarterback lingering after Moore went down became one of the lasting talking points from the game, especially with Stephens later suspended for the next game. Dante Moore Injury Sparked A USC Reaction Oregon Fans Wont Like

The moment Dante Moore went down late in the USC-Oregon game changed the tone on the field immediately, and not just because Oregon had to turn to Dylan Raiola at quarterback. Moore was knocked out after a hit from USC linebacker Desman Stephens II, and the play quickly spilled into a skirmish as emotions ran high around a call that had everyone in the stadium talking.

On the USC radio side, Pete Arbogast pushed back on the idea that the hit was targeting and questioned whether Moore had slid feet-first, while analyst Shaun Cody saw it differently. For Oregon fans, the frustrating part is less the debate itself than how abruptly their quarterback was taken off on a cart after a night that still had plenty of football left, with Raiola stepping in and throwing for 289 yards and two touchdowns. Rece Davis Just Raised A Concern Oregon Fans Should Notice

As Oregon settles into the Big Ten grind, the Ducks are already hearing warning bells from one of college footballs most visible voices. ESPNs Rece Davis singled out a few conference teams as potentially underrated threats on the Ducks schedule, pointing to UCLA and Nebraska as programs that could be more dangerous than their names or early reputations suggest.

UCLA, in particular, has looked sharper than plenty of people expected with its 4-0 start under coach Bob Chesney, and the roster has been bolstered by transfers from James Madison, including running back Wayne Knight. Oregon and UCLA already have some recent familiarity through recent matchups and player movement, which only adds another layer to a game that could be trickier than it first appears. [Read more 🡒]
