EA Sports College Football 2027 may have Oregon sitting at the top of the virtual mountain, but the game’s latest simulations still left the Ducks with plenty to prove.
In the new ratings, Oregon checks in as the highest-ranked team with a 91 overall mark, while quarterback Dante Moore leads the way as the cover model and the game’s top-rated player at 96. That kind of setup looks like a title contender on paper. ESPN’s latest simulation experiment, though, showed a more complicated path.
Max Olson reported Thursday that ESPN ran the 2026 season 26 times through the new game format to sort out the national champion, Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Playoff field. Oregon did not show up in the top nine among playoff appearances, but the Ducks still managed to win the national championship twice. In the Big Ten race, Oregon was crowned conference champion only once.
The Big Ten title results from the simulations broke down this way: Ohio State finished first with 15, followed by USC with 3, Indiana with 2, UCLA with 2, Michigan with 1, Nebraska with 1, Oregon with 1 and Penn State with 1.
The Heisman results brought another twist. Dante Moore was invited to New York twice without winning, while Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer took the award in four of the 26 simulations and Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown won it three times. ESPN also noted that Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin never received a Heisman invitation at all, even though he led the way with six national championship wins in the simulations.
The wildest part of the exercise may have come through the transfer portal. Sophomore wide receiver Dakorien Moore popped up in a string of alternate futures, moving to LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Alabama and even Missouri on an all-in NIL offer.
That kind of outcome makes for entertaining video game chaos, but it also feels a long way from reality. Dakorien Moore is one of Dante Moore’s top targets heading into the 2026 season, and a departure from Oregon does not look likely anytime soon. Still, the game did what it was supposed to do: spin out a handful of strange possibilities and remind everyone that the real answers won’t arrive until the season kicks off in a few months.
