Oregon Loses Top Edge Rusher as He Commits to Powerhouse Rival

Blake Purchase is heading to the SEC in search of a bigger role after two seasons as a rising defensive talent at Oregon.

Another talented piece of Oregon’s defense is on the move - this time to the SEC. Edge rusher Blake Purchase has committed to Ole Miss, becoming the latest Duck to hit the transfer portal and land with another Power 4 program.

Purchase entered the portal on January 11, joining a group of reserve defensive linemen who opted to explore new opportunities after Oregon announced that its entire 2025 defensive line rotation would be returning. With playing time likely limited behind a deep and experienced group, Purchase made the call to look elsewhere - and now he’s headed to a Rebels team fresh off a College Football Playoff Semifinal appearance.

At 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, Purchase came to Eugene with plenty of buzz. A four-star recruit out of Cherry Creek High School in Englewood, Colorado, he was ranked the No. 17 edge rusher and No. 129 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports.

He didn’t waste time making an impression. As a true freshman in 2023, Purchase played in all 14 games, registering five tackles, a sack, and a pass deflection.

He redshirted in 2024, then returned in 2025 as a rotational edge presence behind Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti. Even in a backup role, he made his presence felt - finishing the season with 32 tackles, two sacks, a pass defensed, and an interception.

Across his Oregon career, Purchase totaled 39 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two passes defensed, and a pick. Now, he’ll look to build on that production in Oxford, where he’ll have a real shot at earning a starting role in a defense that’s looking to reload after a postseason run.

With two seasons of eligibility left, Purchase brings both experience and upside to an Ole Miss front seven that’s aiming to stay among the SEC’s elite.
