Oregon Loses Another Piece As Wagner Enters Portal

Oregon's basketball program sees another shift as reserve forward Sammie Wagner plans to transfer, reshaping the team dynamics for the coming season.

EUGENE, Ore. - Sammie Wagner, a reserve forward for the Oregon Ducks, is set to take her talents elsewhere to finish her collegiate basketball career. This decision marks a new chapter for Wagner, who initially joined the Ducks as an early enrollee back in the spring of 2023.

Wagner's journey with Oregon saw her make 29 appearances during her freshman year in the 2023-24 season. However, her court time dwindled over the next two seasons due to injuries, limiting her to just 10 games and a mere 17 minutes of action this past season. Despite these setbacks, Wagner leaves with a memorable highlight - scoring eight points in the Ducks' final victory of the 2023-24 season against Arizona, including two clutch 3-pointers.

Standing at 6-foot-1, Wagner will graduate in June and has one year of eligibility left. However, sources suggest she might opt to conclude her playing career instead of using that final year.

Wagner's departure adds to the Ducks' offseason changes, as she joins teammates Elisa Mevius and Sarah Rambus in entering the transfer portal when it opens on April 6. With these moves, Oregon now has three scholarships available for the 2026-27 season. Alongside Wagner, Mevius, and Rambus, seniors Jacobs, Astera Tuhina, and Amina Muhammad are also leaving the program.

Looking ahead, the Ducks have already secured commitments from three promising prep players as part of their 15th-ranked recruiting class. The team is expected to actively pursue additional talent through the transfer portal to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
