ESPN’s Football Power Index saw the impact immediately. Oregon’s College Football Playoff odds climbed from 20.6% to 41.1% after the win over USC.
The Ducks’ chances of winning the Big Ten also took a sharp leap, moving from 9.2% to 19.1% after the 1-0 start in league play. Their national title odds edged up as well, from 3% last weekend to 3.2%.
The win also came in a weekend that helped Oregon by knocking down several teams around it. Michigan was stunned by Iowa, Oklahoma slipped further out of the race, Louisville absorbed its second loss, Texas A&M did too, and Wisconsin went into Happy Valley and beat Penn State.
Oregon itself did not move in the FPI rankings after beating USC, and the Trojans also stayed put at 18th. That happened in part because none of the teams ahead of the Ducks lost, and the model wasn’t especially high on Ole Miss.
Still, the Ducks’ resume is looking stronger. Boise State and Oklahoma State both sit inside the Top 25 now, which only adds to Oregon’s profile. Boise State carries a 33.3% chance of making the CFP, while Oklahoma State sits at 4.1% and remains in the mix for the Big 12.
Oregon can’t improve its stock this weekend while on the bye, but a number of teams around it can take hits. No.

5 Ohio State faces No. 14 Iowa, No.
8 Florida meets No. 25 Missouri, and No.
18 USC goes against Washington after both teams lost last week.
With conference play rolling across the country, the margins only get tighter from here. For Oregon, the formula is simple: keep winning, and the national conversation keeps coming back around.
