Dante Moore and Oregon needed a clean answer after last week’s shock at Oklahoma State, and they got one in emphatic fashion Friday night.
Moore threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns as No. 21 Oregon blasted Portland State 84-0 in Eugene. The Ducks piled up 12 touchdowns, the most in school history, and the 84 points marked the most in the modern era for Oregon.
The rout also gave Dan Lanning his 50th win in 59 games at Oregon. It was the program’s 40th straight nonconference home win, the nation’s longest active streak, and the 84-point margin was the third-largest in school history. At Autzen Stadium, it was Oregon’s biggest win ever.
“We have a better team, and no disrespect to Portland State, but that’s what that’s the way it should look when you execute the way we’re supposed to execute.”
The Ducks were in control almost immediately. Their first scoring drive took 3:12 and covered 72 yards in eight plays, with Jordon Davison finishing it off for the first of his two touchdowns. Oregon led 28-0 after one quarter and had already turned the night into a runaway.
Moore hit Dakorien Moore on a busted coverage for one long touchdown, then connected with Stewart down the sideline for another. Davison finished with 81 yards and two scores, while freshman tight end Kendre Harrison grabbed his first career touchdown on a 10-yard catch. Oregon kept rolling through the depth chart from there, with Andrew Olesh, Brady Bidwell, Tradarian Ball and Brandon Smith all scoring their first collegiate touchdowns in the second half.
Freshman Messiah Hampton made the most of his chance, catching six passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns. He was in the lineup after junior receiver Jeremiah McClellan, who had led the Ducks in receiving yards through the first two games, did not play after warming up with the team.
“We call (Hampton) the Prince of New York,” Moore said. “He’s someone that has been so dedicated, had a great spring ball, had a great fall camp.
He’s just someone that just puts the work in and when his number isn’t called, he’s still going to put the work in. And when he had his number called today, I mean, he does that at practice.
We’re all not surprised.”
Portland State, now 0-4, managed just 103 yards, tied for third fewest allowed by Oregon. Vikings quarterback Gabe Downing completed 8 of 20 passes for 101 yards and threw three second-half interceptions, including two to Ducks freshman Jett Washington. Portland State has now lost seven straight games dating to its 1-11 2025 season.
Oregon entered the season ranked No. 2 and carried real national title expectations, but a flat opener against Boise State and then the 39-31 loss at Oklahoma State knocked the Ducks from No. 6 to No. 21. Lanning said Friday’s performance mattered as the team heads into conference play, but he also made clear the matchup itself wasn’t the measuring stick.
“This isn’t completely a measure of the games that we’re going to have to face and what we’re going to have to do in the future with the teams that we’ll face,” Lanning said.
The Ducks now turn to No. 12 Southern California next Saturday in Los Angeles. Portland State goes to Weber State.
