The 2028 recruiting race is already starting to heat up, and Oregon finds itself right in the middle of one of the class’s biggest early battles.
Four-star cornerback Ca'ron Williams, a Moreno Valley, California, prospect, does not have a commitment timeline yet, and there’s a good chance this one drags on for a while. Even so, the list of schools with real momentum is beginning to take shape, and Oregon is firmly among the front-runners.
Right now, the programs drawing the most attention are Oregon, Miami, LSU, USC and Ohio State. USC is widely viewed as the favorite and hosted Williams on campus this summer, but all signs point to a longer process that will include official visits before he makes a call.
That said, Rivals’ Adam Gorney believes Oregon is making a serious climb. A recent trip to Eugene helped Williams build a strong connection with Ducks cornerbacks coach Rashad Wadood, and that visit appears to have strengthened Oregon’s place in the mix.
“It’s kind of even right now, but I’d say Oregon,” Williams told Rivals about the team to watch in his recruitment. “It’s great up there, the new facility, the coaching staff is on me and I just loved it up there.”
Williams, who stands 6-foot, also recently visited LSU, so Oregon is hardly the only school making a push. But this still looks like it could turn into another Oregon-USC showdown, especially with the Trojans and Ducks continuing to cross paths often when it comes to California talent.
USC had some wins over Oregon in the 2027 cycle, flipping four-star offensive tackle Drew Fielder and landing commitments from four-star corner Danny Lang and five-star athlete Honor Fa'alave-Johnson. Oregon, though, has had the edge where it matters most lately, winning four straight meetings on the field.
And with Oregon making a major effort on several top 2028 recruits, this may not be the last time the Ducks and Trojans find themselves battling head-to-head for a blue-chip prospect.
