Oregon heads into its Week 2 trip to Stillwater as a heavy favorite, but the Ducks are walking into a game that carries a little more edge than the betting line might suggest.
DraftKings Sportsbook opened Oregon as a 19.5-point road favorite over Oklahoma State, setting up an early-season matchup that pits Dan Lanning’s team against a Cowboys squad trying to make noise under new coach Eric Morris. Oklahoma State also brings in North Texas transfer quarterback Drew Mestemaker, who led the FBS in passing last season and gives the Cowboys a real shot at stressing Oregon’s secondary.
Mestemaker’s 2024 numbers jump off the page. He finished with 4,379 passing yards, 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions, along with a 74.8 QBR. At North Texas, he helped push the Mean Green to the brink of the CFP before they fell 34-21 to Tulane in the American Championship game.
That passing attack will be the first major test for Oregon’s defensive backfield, where rising sophomore cornerback Brandon Finney Jr. and Minnesota transfer safety Koi Perich are expected to be key figures. Both players are slated to help anchor a Ducks defense now led by new coordinator Chris Hampton after Tosh Lupoi left to become the coach of the California Golden Bears.
Oregon’s recent history with Oklahoma State adds another layer to the matchup, even if the odds point firmly toward the Ducks. Last season at Autzen Stadium, Oregon rolled to a 69-3 win.
Dante Moore was sharp in that game, throwing for 266 yards and three touchdowns while completing 16 of 21 passes. The Cowboys team that got blown out in Eugene later fired longtime coach Mike Gundy and finished 1-11.
This time, Oklahoma State gets the home field and a chance to respond in front of its own crowd. The game is set for 9 a.m. PT at Boone Pickens Stadium and will air on ESPN.

Oregon Just Got An Early Recruiting Signal At A Crucial Position
Oregons 2028 recruiting board got an early boost this week when four-star EDGE George Parkinson IV trimmed his list to six schools, and the Ducks were right in the middle of it. The Pennsylvania standout, ranked No. 89 nationally and No. 15 at his position, also included Tennessee, LSU, Penn State, Ohio State and Texas A&M, giving Oregon a seat at the table for one of the more important defensive targets in the class.
The timing matters because the Ducks are already looking ahead at a future need off the edge.
