With the Orange Bowl just around the corner, the Oregon Ducks are getting locked in under the Miami sun. The team held practice at Barry University on Dec. 30, and from the looks of it, there’s no mistaking the energy, intensity, and focus this group is bringing into their final game of the season.
Locked-In and Laser-Focused
Head coach Dan Lanning was right in the thick of it, leading drills and walking the field with a clear sense of purpose. This isn’t just another bowl game for Oregon-it’s a statement opportunity.
And Lanning’s presence sets the tone. Whether it’s fine-tuning defensive schemes or overseeing offensive reps, he’s making sure every detail is dialed in.
Offensive coordinator Will Stein was also on the field, getting a close look at the tempo and rhythm of his unit. With the Ducks’ offense having been one of the most explosive in the country this season, Stein’s role in keeping that fire burning into bowl week is crucial.
Quarterback Room: All Eyes on the Future
Quarterbacks Dante Moore and Brock Thomas both got work in, slinging passes during team drills. Moore, in particular, looked sharp-fluid footwork, confident release, and command of the huddle. These reps are valuable not just for the Orange Bowl, but as a springboard into what could be a defining offseason for the Ducks’ quarterback room.
Weapons on Display
Wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr. was active during practice, showing off the speed and hands that have made him a reliable target all year. He was joined by fellow wideout Jeremiah McClellan and running back Jay Harris in drills, as the Ducks' skill group got in sync for what figures to be a fast-paced offensive approach in the bowl game.
Running back Noah Whittington also took the field, continuing to look like a steady presence in the backfield. His ability to grind out tough yards and contribute in the passing game gives Oregon versatility-something they’ll need against a physical opponent.
Trenches and Tackles
Up front, offensive linemen Iapani Laloulu and Demetri Manning were putting in serious work. This offensive line has been a strength all season, and their ability to protect the quarterback and open lanes will be a major key in the Orange Bowl.
On the defensive side, inside linebacker Jerry Mixon and defensive backs Ify Obidegwu and Brandon Finney Jr. were all active in drills. Oregon’s defense has shown flashes of dominance this year, and the secondary, in particular, will be tested in the bowl matchup. Practices like this one are where those final adjustments get made.
The Bigger Picture
From helmets lined up on the sideline to team buses waiting outside, everything about Oregon’s practice setup in Miami signals a team that’s handling business. This isn’t a vacation-it’s a business trip with one goal: finish the season strong.
The Ducks are treating the Orange Bowl like the stage it is. And if their preparation is any indication, they’re coming to put on a show.
