Nebraska Could Bring A Huge Spotlight To Oregon With One Win

With an undefeated Nebraska team challenging Oregon on their home turf, ESPN College GameDay could find the perfect storm for an electrifying showdown in Eugene.

The case for ESPN’s College GameDay to head back to Eugene is getting hard to ignore.

Oregon has already hosted the show twice in 2025, with College GameDay on hand for the Ducks’ 42-27 win over USC on Nov. 22 and their 30-20 loss to Indiana on Oct. 11.

That made it the first time since 2007 that the program came to Eugene twice in the same season. So another trip to campus would be a long shot.

But one game keeps standing out.

A week after Oregon meets No. 21 UCLA, the Ducks bring unranked but unbeaten Nebraska to Autzen Stadium.

That matchup has the kind of setup ESPN loves, especially if the Cornhuskers can handle No. 7 Indiana in week 6.

Nebraska’s resume is still built on a 2-0 Big Ten start, with wins coming against Maryland, Michigan State, North Dakota, Bowling Green, and Ohio, but a victory over the Hoosiers would give the Ducks-Cornhuskers meeting real juice.

Oregon’s side of the argument is strong too. The Ducks have bounced back since the Oklahoma State loss, and if both teams walk into that game with ranked wins on their ledger, the stage gets even bigger.

Then there’s the Dylan Raiola angle, which practically writes itself. Oregon’s junior quarterback transferred to the Ducks from Nebraska during the 2026 offseason, and after starter Dante Moore left the USC game in the second quarter, Raiola took over and delivered 289 passing yards, two touchdowns, and a 76 percent passing rating.

Moore was reportedly back in pads as early as Monday before the UCLA game, but Oregon could still choose caution before putting him back under center. That leaves open the possibility of Raiola seeing snaps against his old team, if Dan Lanning and his staff decide that route makes sense.

The rivalry flavor is already there, too, thanks to Raiola’s comments at Oregon media day that spread quickly online.

“It's definitely been a transition. I'll start with the landscape of outside.

There's not cornfields here. There's mountains and trees, and I love the nature.

As far as football, it's different with coaches and players. Like we have a lot more talent than we did at Nebraska, and I don't say that to knock on them, but I think everybody will know that," Raiola said.

GameDay has not been out West yet this season, with its furthest western stop coming in Austin, Texas, for Ohio State vs. Texas on Sept.

  1. Week 7 doesn’t offer many West Coast alternatives with the same kind of pull, and with games like No.

1 Texas vs. No.

16 Florida already spoken for, Oregon-Nebraska looks like the cleanest fit.

And if ESPN wants another reason, Kirk Herbstreit has already made his preference clear.

“We come all over the country, and we get asked all the time, ‘Where’s your favorite place to take ‘College GameDay?’ Herbstreit said in 2024. "And I say, every time, Eugene, Oregon.”

Dan Lanning Speaks On Tragedy That Hit Oregon Football Close To Home

A heartbreaking tragedy in Oregon high school football has shaken the broader football community, and Ducks coach Dan Lanning took a moment to publicly acknowledge it. Mason Flores, a 16-year-old junior varsity player from Sweet Home High School, suffered a severe brain injury during a game and later died on his 16th birthday after more than a week in critical condition.

Lanning expressed sympathy for Flores family and for the Sweet Home community as it continues to grieve. In the midst of that loss, the family made the selfless decision to donate his organs, a final act that underscores just how deeply this story has struck close to home for Oregon football. UCLA's New Coach Just Added To Autzen's Pregame Buzz

Bob Chesney already has a memory of what it feels like to walk into Autzen Stadium with Oregon waiting on the other side. Before taking over at UCLA, Chesney led James Madison into the 2025 College Football Playoff first round and came away on the wrong end of a 51-34 decision, but he also left with a healthy respect for the place. He praised Oregons game-day atmosphere at Autzen, the kind of detail Ducks fans probably appreciate hearing from a coach now trying to build something new in Westwood.

Chesneys move to UCLA brought 11 former JMU players with him for the 2026 season, and that group now has its own reason to think about Eugene. Running back Wayne Knight was among those who commented on the effort to recreate the environment ahead of the Bruins upcoming trip to face Oregon, which adds a little more intrigue to a game already likely to draw attention. For the Ducks, it is another reminder that Autzens reputation travels, even with a new coach trying to steady a roster on the other sideline. [Read more 🡒]

Oregon Comes Out Of Its Bye With Two Big UCLA Concerns

Oregon heads into its first game out of the bye week with a clear sense of what needs tightening before UCLA comes to Eugene. The Ducks have spent the opening stretch of the season sorting through a few recurring issues, and two of them stand out as especially relevant for this matchup: getting wide receiver Dakorien Moore more involved in the offense and finding a better way to limit what opposing passing games are able to do.

The defensive side brings its own pressure point, with Oregon looking for sharper play at safety after allowing too much production through the air in the first four games. Those concerns do not erase the progress the Ducks have made, but they do frame UCLA as a useful measuring stick for a team trying to clean up details while protecting its place in the seasons bigger picture.
