EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon Ducks' Recruiting Success and Jett Washington's Rising Star
The Oregon Ducks have been on a recruiting hot streak under head coach Dan Lanning, signing more 5-star prospects than ever before. Among these standout recruits is Jett Washington, who’s already turning heads with his impressive skills and potential.
Washington, the nephew of the legendary Kobe Bryant, made a name for himself in high school with his remarkable size and ability to deliver bone-crushing hits. Even before spring practice kicked off, his natural talents were evident.
New defensive coordinator Chris Hampton had high praise for Washington, noting, "He's obviously got a rare size-speed combination. Standing at a full 6-5, he certainly looks the part." Anyone watching him in action can immediately see why he's such an exciting prospect.
Hampton, who also coaches the defensive backs, has a firsthand look at Washington’s work ethic and approach. While Washington’s physical presence is undeniable, it’s his commitment to improvement that truly sets him apart.
"He's got the right mindset. He really does, man.
I love this guy's mental makeup," Hampton shared. "He's obsessed with the details, watches a lot of film independently, and asks insightful questions.
He's a quick learner, and I believe he has a very bright future here."
Ranked as the top safety prospect in the 2026 class and 23rd overall by 247Sports, Washington’s decision to join the Ducks made him the highest-rated safety to ever sign with Oregon, surpassing Trey McNutt from the 2025 class.
With his blend of physical attributes and mental acuity, Jett Washington is poised to make a significant impact on the field, and Ducks fans have every reason to be excited about what’s to come.
