Former Oregon Ducks Dillon Thieneman, Jadon Canady and Emmanuel Pregnon all got their first taste of NFL preseason action on Saturday, each stepping into different roles for their new teams.
Thieneman, who went No. 25 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, was in the starting lineup at safety for Chicago and played 14 snaps in the Bears’ 34-10 win over Cleveland at Soldier Field. He finished with one solo tackle, and that stop came when he chased down Cleveland rookie running back Quinshon Judkins along the right sideline and forced him out of bounds.
There’s a bigger spotlight on Thieneman heading into 2026, too. With fellow starting safety Coby Bryant having knee surgery and being ruled out for four to six months, the Bears will need more from the former Duck.
Canady’s debut with Kansas City looked a little different, but it was active. The fourth-round pick didn’t start in the Chiefs’ 20-12 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams, yet he logged 23 snaps and made four tackles, three of them solo.
Pregnon, a third-round pick, handled a starting job right away for Jacksonville. He opened at left guard and was on the field for 32 snaps in the Jaguars’ 24-20 home win over New Orleans.
Their debuts followed Thursday’s preseason firsts for Las Vegas wide receiver Malik Benson, Indianapolis linebacker Bryce Boettcher and Houston running back Noah Whittington.
Kenyon Sadiq, the No. 16 overall pick, did not play in Oregon’s first preseason game on Friday against Tampa Bay after a setback tied to hernia surgery in May.

Dillon Gabriels Browns Role Suddenly Feels Far Less Secure
Dillon Gabriels path in Cleveland has taken another turn, and it has not made life any easier for the former Oregon quarterback. In the Browns recent game against Chicago, the quarterback picture shifted again as Deshaun Watson opened the day, Shedeur Sanders took over after halftime and Gabriel did not enter until the fourth quarter, a setup that underscored how crowded and unsettled the depth chart has become.
Gabriel, a 2025 Cleveland draft pick who had already made six starts this season before being displaced, is now fighting to reestablish any real foothold in the offense. The Browns have leaned on multiple quarterbacks in recent weeks, and even with Gabriel getting back on the field, the bigger question is whether that late appearance represented a fresh chance or just another brief stop in a season that keeps slipping further out of his control. Oregon Players Are Already Pointing To Freshmen Fans Need To Watch
Fall camp has a way of revealing who is already earning respect inside the building, and Oregons veterans did not hesitate when asked which newcomers have started to separate themselves. A handful of Ducks pointed to overlooked teammates they think fans should keep an eye on, with true freshmen popping up often in the conversation as the roster takes shape for the season ahead.
Among the names circulating, defensive back Devin Jackson drew repeated mention from veterans as a player who has stood out early, while offensive lineman Immanuel Iheanacho also surfaced as a freshman making a strong first impression. The list did not stop there, either, with Matthew Johnson, Jeremiah McClellan, Jerry Mixon, Carl Williams IV and Gage Hurych all getting brought up as players who may deserve more attention than they have gotten so far.
