Drew Mehringer Praises Evan Stewart's Unmatched Offseason Effort

Evan Stewart's renewed dedication and intense work ethic are setting the stage for a remarkable comeback at Oregon under Drew Mehringer's guidance.

EUGENE, Ore. - Evan Stewart is on a mission this offseason, and it’s catching everyone’s attention, especially Oregon's offensive coordinator, Drew Mehringer. After sitting out the 2025 season due to a full patella tear, Stewart is back with a vengeance, ready to showcase his talent and secure his future in the pros.

Mehringer, speaking after Oregon's second spring practice, highlighted Stewart's determination. "This is the hardest I think I've ever seen Stewie work," he noted.

Conversations between the two have focused on Stewart’s ambitions and potential. While his speed is undeniable, Mehringer emphasized that raw speed alone doesn’t guarantee success in the NFL.

It’s about the approach and work ethic, and Stewart seems to be embracing that change.

Standing at six feet, Stewart has consistently been a playmaker when healthy. He’s surpassed 500 receiving yards in each of his collegiate seasons, including a standout 613 yards and five touchdowns in 2024, his first year at Oregon.

Mehringer is optimistic about what Stewart can achieve in 2026. "In our unit meeting, I called him out specifically, saying, 'We all know your goals, now show them in your work today.'

And he did just that," Mehringer shared. If Stewart maintains this momentum, the upcoming season could be something special.

Stewart isn’t alone in setting the bar high. Oregon’s veteran players have been pivotal during winter workouts, leading by example and setting a strong cultural tone.

"It’s exciting when your most talented players are also your hardest workers," Mehringer said. He praised the leadership of players like Dante, Poncho, Matyao, Teitum, and A'Mauri, who are all pushing boundaries and leading from the front.

With two spring practices in the books, the Ducks will take a breather for spring break. They'll reconvene in early April for the remaining 13 practices, culminating in the annual spring game at Autzen Stadium on April 25. If this early energy is any indication, Oregon fans have plenty to look forward to.
