USC broadcaster Pete Arbogast drew sharp criticism after his on-air reaction to the injury that knocked Oregon quarterback Dante Moore out of Saturday’s 41-27 Ducks win at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
The play came in the second quarter, when Moore scrambled and slid. USC linebacker Desman Stephens II then drove his shoulder into Moore’s head, sending him backward into the turf. Moore remained on the ground for several minutes before being taken off on a cart and loaded into an ambulance.
Stephens celebrated the hit even after the flag came out, which sparked a skirmish with several Oregon players.
In the radio booth, Arbogast said the play did not appear to be targeting and argued that Moore had not slid feet-first. He also said Stephens went in helmet first and ran into Moore who “ducked into that hit.”
“I saw him dive forward,” Arbogast claimed.
Radio analyst Shaun Cody, who played defensive line at USC from 2001-2004 and spent eight seasons in the NFL with Detroit and Houston, pushed back immediately.
“He’s laying feet first,” Cody responded.
Arbogast then said, “Well, he is now because they spun him around.”
Cody disagreed again, and Arbogast said he wanted to see the replay. The replay showed Moore sliding feet-first and Stephens going in head-first, with his right shoulder striking Moore in the head.
“Yeah, not a feet-first slide, it’s more of a knee slide,” Arbogast claimed while watching the replay.
Cody smirked at the comment, and Arbogast followed with, “It didn’t look like targeting on the replay to us.”
Cody then looked directly into the camera, eyes wide, and nodded in clear disagreement.
Oregon backup quarterback Dylan Raiola took over for Moore and threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

USC Quarterback's Response To Dante Moore Injury Has Oregon Fans Talking
A late hit on Oregon quarterback Dante Moore turned a tense stretch of the USC game into something bigger than the final score, and Jayden Maiavas reaction did not go unnoticed. After Moore was diagnosed with a concussion, Maiava stayed near the injured Duck, a brief but striking moment in a game that already had plenty of bad blood because of the targeting call that got USC linebacker Desman Stephens ejected.
For Oregon fans, the scene added another layer to a matchup that had already swung on discipline and physicality. Maiava still put together a strong passing night with 326 yards and two touchdowns in USCs 41-27 loss, but the image of the quarterback lingering after Moore went down became one of the lasting talking points from the game, especially with Stephens later suspended for the next game. Rece Davis Just Raised A Concern Oregon Fans Should Notice
As Oregon settles into the Big Ten grind, the Ducks are already hearing warning bells from one of college footballs most visible voices. ESPNs Rece Davis singled out a few conference teams as potentially underrated threats on the Ducks schedule, pointing to UCLA and Nebraska as programs that could be more dangerous than their names or early reputations suggest.
UCLA, in particular, has looked sharper than plenty of people expected with its 4-0 start under coach Bob Chesney, and the roster has been bolstered by transfers from James Madison, including running back Wayne Knight. Oregon and UCLA already have some recent familiarity through recent matchups and player movement, which only adds another layer to a game that could be trickier than it first appears. [Read more 🡒]
USC Just Helped Oregon In A Way Trojans Fans Will Hate
Oregons win at USC did a little more than add another notch to the Ducks rsum. The 41-27 road result nudged their national championship odds upward in some betting markets, a small but notable bump for a team trying to stay in the thick of the title conversation while handling the kind of late-season scrutiny that comes with it.
Still, the bigger concern out of Los Angeles wasnt the market movement. Dante Moores health remains the storyline to watch after he suffered a concussion and was carted off the field, even though backup Dylan Raiola stepped in and played well in his absence. The Ducks got the result they wanted, but the betting markets modest reaction suggests theres still plenty of uncertainty around just how far this team can go. [Read more 🡒]
