Oregon’s 2023 recruiting class has taken two very different paths for its biggest names, and CBS Sports’ latest five-star regrade reflects that split.
Wide receiver Jurrion Dickey, the class’s lone five-star high school commit for the Ducks, came out on the wrong side of the evaluation with an “In Question” label. His Oregon career never got off the ground.
Dickey managed just one catch for seven yards in 2023 and again in 2024, then was kicked off the team before last season. He spent the following year at Diablo Valley College and is still unsigned with less than two months left before the 2026 campaign.
CBS Sports’ Cooper Petagna pointed to how quickly things unraveled in Eugene.
"Across two seasons in Eugene, Dickey recorded a total of 74 offensive snaps, accounting for just two receptions for 14 yards in his brief stint with the Ducks," CBS Sports' Cooper Petagna wrote. "Although injuries led to a redshirt as a true freshman, it was a series of off-the-field issues that ultimately pushed Oregon head coach Dan Lanning to move on from the former five-star after just two years in the program. Now at Diablo Valley Junior College, Dickey finds himself in the depths of college football's abyss."
Dickey’s story sits in stark contrast to another former 2023 five-star who ended up in Eugene through the transfer portal: quarterback Dante Moore.
Moore arrived after a rough freshman season at UCLA, then spent Year 2 backing up veteran Dillon Gabriel before finally taking over last season. Once he got the job, he helped lead Oregon to the College Football Playoff Semifinal and pushed himself into the conversation for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. He has since chosen to return for another college season.
CBS Sports gave Moore a “Meeting expectations” verdict.
That could still look conservative if Moore delivers another big year as Oregon’s starter. A strong season would not only raise his stock again, it could put him in position to bring the program’s first national title back to Eugene and move him well beyond what even a five-star label and his No. 3 ranking among 2023 quarterbacks suggested.

Dan Lanning Still Has One Oregon Problem He Cannot Escape
Dan Lanning has done plenty right since taking over at Oregon, and the overall record reflects that. The Ducks have won a lot of games, the coach has piled up the kind of accolades that usually signal a program in good shape, and the foundation he has built is obvious enough to keep Oregon in the national conversation.
The nagging issue is what happens when the stage gets biggest. In too many of those high-profile matchups, Oregon has looked tired, flat, or simply not ready for the moment, and that raises the same question every season: can Lanning get the Ducks to peak when it matters most? Autzen Stadium has long carried a reputation that travels well beyond Eugene, and USA TODAYs latest Big Ten stadium ranking only adds to it. The outlet placed Oregons home field near the top of the conference, pointing to the noise, the edge it gives the Ducks, and the kind of atmosphere that has made visiting teams feel the pressure from the opening series on.
Dan Lannings tenure has only strengthened that case. Oregon has been extremely difficult to beat at home since he took over, and the Ducks now get to lean on that advantage as the season tightens.
