Dan Lanning Is Building An Oregon Recruiting Machine Fans Can Feel

Discover how the Oregon Ducks are shaping their future with a nationwide recruiting class that's making waves across the nation.

Dan Lanning’s 2027 Oregon recruiting class is already loaded with the kind of talent that turns heads before a single player ever steps on campus. The Ducks sit No. 1 in the Big Ten and inside the national top five in both On3 and 247Sports, and with 24 commitments in hand and only a few targets still out there, the numbers behind this group tell the story of a class built to pop.

The biggest one is simple: Oregon has 16 commitments from four-star or five-star recruits in On3’s rankings. That means two-thirds of the class is made up of blue-chip prospects, a strong sign of how much high-end talent the staff has stacked together.

The five-star label is spread around depending on the service, and Oregon has several names that show up at the top of those lists. ESPN has wide receiver Xavier Sabb and defensive back Hayden Stepp as five-stars.

247Sports gives that tag to EDGE Rashad Streets and wide receiver Dakota Guerrant. In On3’s latest update, quarterback Will Mencl and Guerrant are the Ducks’ two five-stars.

If you look at Rivals Industry rankings, the class gets even more eye-catching. Oregon has eight recruits inside the top 100:

  • Five-star receiver Dakota Guerrant (No. 22)
  • Four-star EDGE Rashad Streets (No. 33)
  • Four-star receiver Xavier Sabb (No. 37)
  • Four-star cornerback Hayden Stepp (No. 40)
  • Four-star quarterback Will Mencl (No. 44)
  • Four-star safety Semaj Stanford (No. 68)
  • Four-star athlete Tae Walden Jr. (No.
  • Four-star linebacker Toa Satele (No.

The Ducks are also showing just how far their recruiting reach extends. This class includes commitments from 17 different states, with Oregon landing players from Alabama, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Illinois, Texas, Michigan, California and more.

There is still a clear Oregon footprint in the group, though. Four commits are from the state, and the top in-state name is four-star cornerback Josiah Molden, an Oregon legacy. He leads the way for the Ducks’ homegrown haul.

The other in-state additions are three-star defensive linemen Josh Christensen and Achilles Reyna, along with three-star receiver Malachi Garlington, giving Oregon four commitments from within the state.

Defensive back recruiting remains a major theme under Lanning, and this class fits right into that pattern. Five defensive backs are already set to join the program: Hayden Stepp, Semaj Stanford, Tae Walden Jr., Josiah Molden and three-star Malakai Taufoou.

Oregon also has a deep group coming along on the defensive line, and the timing makes sense. The Ducks’ starting front of Matayo Uiagalelei, A'Mauri Washington, Bear Alexander and Teitum Tuioti are all forgoing the NFL Draft and returning for 2026, which means the program will eventually need to replace a lot of production and experience after that season.

That has pushed Lanning and his staff to attack the position hard in this class. The defensive line group currently includes:

  • Five-star Rashad Streets
  • Four-star Zane Rowe
  • Four-star Cam Pritchett
  • Three-star Achilles Reyna
  • Three-star Josh Christensen

With that kind of mix at the top and depth across the board, Oregon’s 2027 class already looks like one of the most talent-heavy groups in the country.

Oregons Running Back Room Just Earned A Massive National Ranking

Oregons backfield is drawing national attention again, and for good reason. CBS Sports placed the Ducks running back room third in the country, a nod to the kind of production and depth that has become a calling card in Eugene. At the center of it are sophomores Jordon Davison and Dierre Hill Jr., who return after combining for more than 1,500 scrimmage yards and 21 total touchdowns in 2025.

The top of the room is established, but the more interesting part for Oregon is what comes next. Colorado transfer Simeon Price has entered the mix, and freshmen Brandon Smith and Tradarian Ball are also pushing for snaps, giving the Ducks a group that looks deeper than just two proven names. How that third spot shakes out could end up mattering as much as the headline ranking itself. [Read more 🡒]

Oregon Is Pushing Early For A SoCal Defensive Back Fans Know Well

Oregon is making an early push for Mission Viejo safety Jordan Hicks, a 2028 prospect whose name is already drawing plenty of attention on the West Coast and beyond. The Ducks have been active with Hicks from the start, and he has built a steady connection with safeties coach Rashad Wadood while making multiple trips to campus.

That kind of head start matters in a national race that already includes Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and UCLA. Hicks is still early in his recruiting process, but Oregon has clearly put itself in position to matter here, and the Ducks will have to keep that momentum going as the list of suitors keeps growing. Oregon Is In The Big Ten Elite Conversation Again But One Doubt Remains

The Big Tens new hierarchy is starting to feel familiar again, and Oregon is right there in the mix as the 2026 season approaches. USA TODAYs Paul Myerberg slotted the Ducks third in the league behind Indiana and Ohio State, a reminder that Dan Lannings program has stayed in the elite conversation even as the conferences top tier has shifted around it.

What still separates Oregon from the two teams sitting above it is the one achievement that changes the conversation entirely. Ohio State and Indiana have recently climbed to the sports summit, while Oregon is still chasing that first national title, even with a roster that looks built to contend again behind Dante Moore and a strong returning core on both sides of the ball. The Ducks have the pieces to stay in the race, but the final step remains the one they have not taken yet. [Read more 🡒]
