The Oregon Ducks are holding onto their core defensive line for another year-but that continuity came at a cost. With all four starters from the 2025 unit returning, the ripple effect hit the depth chart hard. Several defensive linemen entered the transfer portal earlier this week, and one of the most notable names to move on is Terrance Green.
Green announced Saturday that he’s heading to Tuscaloosa, transferring to the Alabama Crimson Tide. And while he wasn’t a headline-grabber on the stat sheet this past season-15 tackles and one tackle for loss across 15 games-his presence on the field told a different story.
Green carved out a key role as part of Oregon’s defensive line rotation, offering versatility and energy in critical moments. The Ducks’ staff clearly valued him, reportedly making a push to keep him in Eugene.
But in the end, the opportunity for a bigger role elsewhere proved too tempting.
It’s not hard to see why Alabama was an appealing destination. Green has the kind of traits that SEC programs covet-size, athleticism, and the ability to disrupt from multiple spots along the line.
At Oregon, he was stuck behind a veteran group that’s returning intact. At Alabama, the path to a starting job and significant snaps is much more open.
This move also marks a bit of a full-circle moment for Green, who came to Oregon as a highly touted 4-star recruit and the No. 211 player in the 2023 class. After redshirting his freshman year, he now enters his next chapter with two years of eligibility remaining and a fresh opportunity to make his mark in one of college football’s most competitive environments.
For the Ducks, it’s a tough loss in terms of depth and future potential. For the Crimson Tide, it’s a savvy pickup of a player who’s already shown he can contribute at the Power Five level-and who might just be scratching the surface of what he can become.
