Will Furniss Powers Ole Miss to Victory with Dramatic 3-Run Homer

Ole Miss Rebels showcase offensive power with Will Furniss' pivotal home run, maintaining their undefeated streak as they prepare for the Bruce Bolt College Classic.

In a midweek showdown, Ole Miss flexed its muscles against Southeast Missouri, cruising to a commanding 13-3 victory. The game ended early, thanks to Will Furniss, who launched a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. This blast, his first of the season, not only sealed the win but also sent the chilly crowd home with a smile.

The Rebels found themselves trailing after the first inning, but they quickly turned the tables with a flurry of runs in the first two frames, jumping ahead 9-2. After a brief lull in the action, Ole Miss reignited their offense in the seventh, adding four more runs to their tally.

Furniss was the standout performer with four RBIs, while Tristan Bissetta and Cannon Goldin chipped in with two each. Bissetta was particularly impressive, going 3-for-4 at the plate and bringing his season RBI total to 16 in just nine games. Topher Jones, a transfer from Pearl River CC, made his presence felt with his first RBI in his debut start for the Rebels.

On the mound, Ole Miss utilized five pitchers to navigate the game. Starter Terry Hayes Jr. faced some challenges, lasting only 1.1 innings and giving up two earned runs.

However, the bullpen stepped up, combining for 5.2 innings and allowing just one earned run. Owen Kelly's 2.2 scoreless innings could earn him a closer look for future midweek starts.

With this victory, Ole Miss remains undefeated at 9-0 and is gearing up for a competitive weekend in Houston, Texas. They’ll face Baylor, Ohio State, and Coastal Carolina at the Bruce Bolt College Classic.

Fans can catch the action starting Friday at 3:05 p.m. CT, streamed on the Houston Astros' YouTube channel.
