The UFL's 2026 season opener was a night of firsts and fireworks, as the reigning champions, the Birmingham Stallions, faced off against the expansion team, the Louisville Kings. While the game itself started off slow, it was the halftime antics that stole the show.
As the teams headed to the locker rooms, the Kings' fans made their presence felt, showering the Stallions with a chorus of boos. Birmingham's wide receiver, Justyn Ross, formerly of Clemson and the Kansas City Chiefs, didn't take kindly to the reception.
In a moment of heated exchange, Ross tossed a drink into the crowd, sparking a swift response from a fan. Tensions flared, and Ross had to be restrained by his teammates.
Despite the drama, Ross had the last word on the field. He may have only logged two catches for 30 yards, but one of those was a crucial 14-yard touchdown that sealed the game for Birmingham. The pass came courtesy of Matt Corral, the former Ole Miss standout, who put up 208 yards and that decisive score.
On the Louisville side, quarterback Jason Bean, who once called the shots at Kansas, tallied 253 total yards with one touchdown pass, though he also threw two interceptions. Benny Snell, a beloved figure from his Kentucky days, struggled to find his footing, managing just 12 yards on five carries.
Looking ahead, the Stallions will face the Houston Gamblers in Week 2, while the Kings will travel to Orlando for their first road game. Both matchups promise to keep fans on the edge of their seats as the season unfolds.
