The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is a powerhouse when it comes to producing NFL-ready talent, and 2026 is no exception. This year, several SEC teams are fortunate to have standout quarterbacks returning, ready to elevate their squads to new heights.
Roman Harper, an analyst for the SEC Network, shared his insights on the top five returning SEC quarterbacks during a broadcast on Thursday morning. Surprisingly, Harper didn't choose Texas quarterback Arch Manning as his top pick. Instead, he highlighted Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.
Chambliss's journey is nothing short of remarkable. Starting his college career at Ferris State, he was initially under the radar and began as a backup.
However, once he got his chance under the guidance of offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., Chambliss seized the opportunity. Harper praised Chambliss for his playmaking ability and knack for creating opportunities, saying, “He took his team further than anybody else.”
Chambliss was instrumental in leading the Rebels to their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance. He threw for an impressive 3,937 yards and 22 touchdowns, adding another 527 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. This performance is even more impressive considering he stepped in after an injury to Week 1 starter Austin Simmons, starting just 13 games.
Arch Manning, who had a stellar season himself with 3,163 yards and 26 touchdowns for the Longhorns, was Harper’s second choice. Manning's talent is undeniable, and he remains a key player to watch as the season unfolds.
Rounding out Harper's top five are LSU's Sam Leavitt, a transfer from Arizona State; Texas A&M's Marcel Reed; and Georgia's Gunner Stockton. Each of these quarterbacks brings unique skills and leadership to their teams, promising an exciting season ahead in the SEC.
As we look forward to the upcoming games, these quarterbacks are set to be at the center of the action, shaping the destiny of their teams and potentially their future careers.
