OXFORD - Ole Miss will head into its Oct. 31 matchup with Auburn without star running back Kewan Lacy, who is sidelined by a dislocated left shoulder.
Coach Pete Golding said on Oct. 26 that Lacy won’t be available for the No. 12 Rebels against Auburn, calling it a situation with “no chance” of him playing this week.
The injury happened in the third quarter of Ole Miss’ 34-27 loss to Texas on Oct. 24, when Lacy came down on his left shoulder while being tackled by three defenders. He did not return.
“It wasn't exactly (the same injury) it was before," Golding said. "It was different. With the combination of both of those, obviously he's not going to play this week."
Lacy has already dealt with ongoing issues in that same shoulder, including offseason surgery in 2025. Golding said the team will continue to evaluate him after this week and did not close the door on a return beyond Week 9.
"We're going to evaluate that moving forward and what kind of looks like," Golding said. "Normally we wouldn't tell you that (Lacy is out against Auburn) but there's no chance that we are going to try that this week.
He's still in the rehab process. We'll get MRIs and all that stuff."
The Rebels, now 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC, are set to host Auburn at 11:45 a.m. on SEC Network.
Lacy has been a major piece of Ole Miss’ offense, rushing for 1,567 yards and a school-record 24 touchdowns last season. This year, he has 388 rushing yards and five scores. He is viewed as a potential first-round NFL draft pick in 2027.
He also led the nation in carries in 2025, while the shoulder issue continued to linger.
With Lacy out, junior Michigan State transfer Makhi Frazier is expected to carry the load again. Frazier has 301 rushing yards and no touchdowns this season.

Pete Golding Defends The Ole Miss Decision Fans Can't Ignore
Ole Miss fought all the way back from a 24-3 hole against Texas, but the rally ended in heartbreak when Lucas Carneiros 58-yard field goal attempt was blocked late. The Rebels had given themselves a chance after digging out of a deep early deficit, and the finish came down to a choice that was as much about game management as it was about distance.
Pete Golding backed the decision to send Carneiro out there on fourth-and-long, pointing to previous decisions and the flow of the game as reasons the staff trusted the kick. Trinidad Chambliss had already put the Rebels in a tough spot with multiple interceptions, including a costly one before halftime, and the loss left plenty for Ole Miss to sort through after a game that was both resilient and frustrating. Ole Miss Let A Statement Win Slip Away And Paid For It
The latest AP Top 25 brought plenty of movement after a wild Week 8 slate, and Ole Miss was right in the middle of it after letting a statement opportunity slip away. With three top-10 teams taking losses and Texas making the biggest climb of the week after beating the Rebels, the poll made clear how quickly one result can reshape the conversation around a contender.
For Ole Miss, the drop is less about the number next to its name and more about what it surrendered in a game that could have changed its standing nationally. Miami stayed at No. 1, while Utah and UCLA kept their perfect records intact, but the Rebels are left looking at a missed chance to join that upper tier and wondering how much ground they can still make back. Kentucky Just Entered A Poll Debate SEC Fans Know Too Well
The Week 9 Coaches Poll landed with the usual mix of affirmation and argument, and for SEC fans, it instantly became another round of familiar water-cooler debate. Miami checked in at No. 1 after a decisive win over Pitt, while the league once again packed the rankings, with nine SEC teams in the poll and Georgia sitting at No. 3 and Alabama at No. 10.
Kentuckys place in the conversation is the kind that tends to stir the most noise this time of year, especially when the full rankings and the teams receiving votes are laid out for everyone to compare. It is the sort of poll release that gives plenty of fan bases something to celebrate and just as many something to argue about, which is about as SEC as it gets. [Read more 🡒]
