Ole Miss Still Has One Big Edge In The SEC Rankings

Georgia's triumph over Alabama in Tuscaloosa shakes up the Coaches Poll as SEC dominance continues with nine teams in the top 25.

We’ve got a new No. 1 in the Coaches Poll, and it’s Georgia sliding back into the top spot after taking down Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

The Bulldogs’ rise comes on the strength of another elite defensive outing and a composed performance from quarterback Gunner Stockton. That was enough to push Kirby Smart’s team back to the front of the college football pack.

Alabama’s close battle with the new No. 1 still cost it a few places, with the Crimson Tide landing at No. 7.

Texas sits one spot ahead at No. 6, but the Longhorns took the bigger hit after a loss to unranked rival Oklahoma. The Sooners finished the job with a walk-off field goal and snapped Texas’ two-game win streak.

Ole Miss also made a move inside the top 10, coming in at No. 10 after rolling past Vanderbilt.

The SEC is everywhere in this poll. Nine teams from the league are ranked in Week 7, with Mizzou at No.

13, Tennessee at No. 14, Kentucky at No.

17, Mississippi State at No. 19 and LSU at No. 21.

Florida and Oklahoma are just outside the top 25, but both received votes.

What Just Happened To Florida Changes How Ole Miss Win Looks

Ole Miss win over Florida already had plenty of weight, but the Gators latest stumble only sharpens the way it looks in hindsight. Floridas 38-19 loss to South Carolina was its second straight lopsided defeat, coming after the setback to Missouri, and the slide pushed the Gators out of the Top 25. Add in the injury absence of Vernell Brown III, who has been sidelined by a knee issue, and the offensive concerns around that team suddenly look deeper than a bad afternoon.

For the Rebels, that matters because it changes the texture of a result that once seemed tied more to Floridas preseason standing than to what Ole Miss actually did. Jon Sumralls team still has work ahead, with tougher games waiting and an offensive line that needs to play better, but the ripple effect from Floridas collapse gives the Rebels win a little more credibility. It is the kind of development that can quietly enhance a rsum while the season keeps moving. [Read more 🡒]

Mizzou Just Got A National TV Snub Fans Wont Ignore

Missouris trip to face Ole Miss carries the kind of stakes that usually earn the SECs brightest spotlight, with two top-13 teams and College Football Playoff implications hanging over the matchup. Instead, the game will land on the SEC Network, a surprising placement for a contest with this much weight and a notable break from the SEC on ABC setup that began in 2024.

For Rebels fans, the bigger irritation may be the company this game was put with, tucked into the same window as Alabama-Tennessee and Auburn-Georgia. It is the kind of scheduling choice that has left Missouri supporters feeling disrespected, and it adds one more edge to a meeting that already had plenty riding on it. [Read more 🡒]

Ole Miss Just Gave Fans Real Relief On Two Huge Concerns

After a week in which plenty of Ole Miss fans had reason to worry about whether the Rebels could clean up the sloppier parts of their game, Saturday brought a much calmer picture. The offense moved efficiently enough to hang 52 points on Vanderbilt, while the defense complemented it by forcing four turnovers and getting three sacks in a lopsided win that looked more like the kind of complete performance Ole Miss has been searching for.

Suntarine Perkins helped set the tone with a fumble-return touchdown, and Makhi Frazier gave the ground game a steady lift as the Rebels found balance on offense. The bigger takeaway for Ole Miss may be what came with the result, though, because this was the kind of all-around showing that can quiet two nagging concerns at once and leave fans wondering if it signals a real turning point.
