Ole Miss may be without one of its most reliable pieces in the secondary when Missouri comes to Oxford on Saturday.
Safety Edwin Joseph underwent ankle surgery after hurting himself in last week’s blowout win over Vanderbilt, leaving his status murky for the immediate future. Ole Miss on SI confirmed the procedure, and while there is no timetable for his return, the move almost certainly knocks him out for the SEC matchup with the Tigers. The first injury report from Wednesday evening should provide the next official update.
Joseph, a Florida State transfer in his first season with the Rebels, posted photos on social media after the surgery with two thumbs up. The injury comes at an unfortunate time for a player who had settled in as one of the steadier defenders in Pete Golding’s back end.
Through five games this season, Joseph has recorded 18 total tackles, including 11 solo stops, along with one pass defended. That production has stood out on a secondary that has had its share of problems.
Golding had already told reporters earlier in the week that Joseph was set to receive a second opinion on the ankle. Joseph was in Birmingham, AL on Tuesday, which may have been where he met with doctors before the surgery.
Golding said, "My only concern from Saturday, from an injury standpoint, would be Edwin," Golding said. "It is an ankle.
Got diagnosed yesterday with an ankle sprain. We're going to get another opinion on that tomorrow.
We'll manage it throughout the week."
Joseph’s latest update suggests that second opinion led to surgery.

Lane Kiffin Family Drama Adds To LSU Fans' Frustration After Loss
Landry Kiffins social media posts during a busy SEC weekend added another layer to the conversation around Lane Kiffin and LSU, as the coachs daughter publicly showed support for LSU, Ole Miss and Texas while games were unfolding. The reaction online was mixed, but for fans around the league it was another reminder of how much attention follows Kiffin family storylines whenever big conference matchups are in the spotlight.
The timing was hardly ideal for LSU, which was coming off an upset loss to Kentucky that dropped the Tigers to 4-2. Lane Kiffin pointed to the details that hurt his team, including a punt return touchdown and turnovers, as execution issues piled up in a game LSU expected to handle better. [Read more 🡒]
Ole Miss Right Tackle Battle Just Got A Lot More Interesting
Ole Miss has already settled one side of its 2026 offensive tackle picture, with Terez Davis locked in on the left. The other side, though, is still very much up for grabs, and the battle at right tackle between Tommy Kinsler IV and Connor Howes has turned into one of the more watched competitions on the roster.
Kinsler opened Week 1 in the spot before getting hurt late, which opened the door for Howes to take on a bigger role, including a key part in the game-winning drive. Since then, the two have been splitting snaps, with Howes getting more of the recent work, and the staff is still letting the daily competition play out before making any final call. [Read more 🡒]
Ole Miss Has A Crucial Line Decision Before Missouri
Ole Miss is heading into Missouri week with a quiet but important question along the offensive front, and it starts at right tackle. Starter Tommy Kinsler IV is still dealing with an injury, which has pushed sophomore Connor Howes into the role for most of the recent snaps, giving the Rebels a different look on the edge as they prepare for a conference test.
Pete Golding said Howes has continued to develop, a positive sign for an offense that wants stability on both sides of the line. The left side already has one established answer in Terez Davis, who won the starting job after transferring from Maryland, but the right tackle spot is still the one worth watching as Ole Miss gets closer to kickoff.
