Ole Miss Lands Oregon Defender After Quiet Three-Year Run

Ole Miss bolsters its defensive arsenal with a key addition from the Pac-12, continuing a dominant run in the transfer portal.

Blake Purchase is heading to Oxford. The former Oregon edge rusher has committed to transfer to Ole Miss, bringing with him two years of eligibility and a resume that suggests his best football might still be ahead of him.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, Purchase arrives with plenty of high-level experience under his belt. He spent three seasons at Oregon, where he gradually carved out a role in one of the nation’s more competitive defensive rotations. Now, he joins a Rebels program that’s been aggressive in the transfer portal and is clearly looking to bolster its pass rush.

Purchase came to Eugene as a top-300 recruit in the 2023 class, a four-star prospect out of Colorado who didn’t take long to get on the field. As a true freshman, he played in all 14 games for a Ducks team that reached the conference title game and capped the year with a Fiesta Bowl win.

While his stat line that season was modest - five total tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, and a pass breakup - the flashes were there. He showed an early knack for disruption, even in limited snaps.

His sophomore year in 2024 saw a shift. With a crowded edge room and limited opportunities, Purchase took a redshirt after appearing in just six games. Still, he saw action in two of the biggest stages - the Big Ten Championship win over Penn State and the College Football Playoff semifinal against Ohio State - a sign the coaching staff trusted him in pressure moments.

Then came his breakout. In 2025, Purchase returned to the rotation and earned his first two career starts.

He played in all 15 games, recording 32 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two pass breakups, an interception, and a blocked kick. He also racked up 14 quarterback pressures, fifth-most on the team - a solid number considering his rotational role.

But what really jumps off the page is his tackling efficiency. Across more than 350 defensive snaps, Purchase didn’t miss a single tackle.

Not one. That kind of consistency earned him a 90.0 tackling grade from Pro Football Focus, the highest of any Oregon defender last season.

For a team like Ole Miss, which is looking to level up defensively, that kind of reliability is gold.

With Purchase, the Rebels are adding more than just depth. They’re getting a high-motor edge rusher who’s shown steady development and proven he can contribute on multiple fronts - pass rush, special teams, and in coverage. He becomes the 20th transfer to commit to Ole Miss this cycle and the third edge rusher to join the class, signaling just how serious Lane Kiffin and his staff are about building out their defensive front.

Purchase might not have been a household name during his time at Oregon, but the tools are there. And in a new system with a fresh opportunity, don’t be surprised if he makes some noise in the SEC.
